I think I paid either $200 or $250 at an equipment auction for a ISU helmet.
I feel like a 4x8 piece of Hilton flooring could easily sell for that much and that finding 335 people to pay that wouldn't be that difficult.

It's the storing and logistics that's the problem.

I'm tempted.

Isn't it already in pieces? It wouldn’t need to be cut unless you want to sell as small pieces.

92 feet wide. 112 feet long. 10304 square feet. 335 pieces. Pay $25000. Sell each piece for $250 means $83,750 (not including premium prices for logo pieces). That could easily pay for hauling, storing, and distributing.

Seems like an opportunity for someone who might like to use this as a way to raise some money for the We Will Collective. @brentblum

Exactly. You could just straight up sell a 4x8 sheet for that.

It says the starting bid is $25000. Any idea what it is likely to sell for?

Problem is 335 pieces of 10304 sf is like 30 sf per piece. I’m guessing it’s be more marketable in 2’x2’ pieces or even 4’x4’. You could make more than that for the floor

Honestly a fraternity, church, boy scouts could make 6 figures off this if done right.

Agreed. There is even money to be made. Who wouldn't want a piece in his mancave? Seems like an entrepreneur with a friend in construction who could handle the hauling and cutting could make a tidy profit.

Do you know/understand that this was tried in 2020 and the people willing to buy wasn’t as high as you may think. I’m about 99% sure the group still has some… I could be wrong as that was last fall… But if I remember correctly.. Medders still had some laying around in their garage.

As someone mentioned, it’s the logistics of the transaction that is problematic.

If you have access to a semi, and a big enough place to store it while you figure out what to do with it, you may be a player.

The last one went for about $40k, and I am pretty sure there is still quite a bit of it left, (I know the buyer) and I was seriously considering going in on it last time with a different party.

This floor doesn’t have nearly as much memorable history as the prior one (10yrs vs. 3yrs) so maybe it won’t attract as many potential buyers.

The athletic department hasn't done anything non-traditional with the floor before, I fully expect a very low key design but would be pumped if there was a state of Iowa outline/shape involved with the half court logo or something similar.
I wouldn't be pumped about this idea. With all the developments that have taken place in our state government, I'm afraid my embarrassment for the state of Iowa has exceeded my pride for the state of Iowa.

Do not do any of the stupid stuff on the floor like Oregon (can't watch games at Oregon) or some of the other ones posted. It makes it hard to watch. I have to imagine it's distracting for the players too. Plus I don't even thing it looks good just sitting there. It's ugly. I'd be surprised if our AD did anything like that

This floor saw the epic turnaround from Prohm's 2-22 year to TJ's Sweet 16 year. That's some serious mojo!

:otz:

P.S. I'll probably pass on bidding on it.

If they made it more well known they were selling it, they could have moved more. I know there were some of us willing to buy a section or half section on here.

They could probably sell it for more if they sold it in sections. Probably be more of a hassle. I assume if they sold it in sections a lot of people would buy it and put it in a man cave or some crap. That would be pretty cool .
