The eye popping athlete of the meet did the following
7th in discus
2nd in shot put
Repeated as champion in the HIGH JUMP.
Just a junior too.
Don't believe I know many thrower/high jump combos
Freak athlete, would make a tremendous multis athlete in college. But, we will never know since he's a football recruit for TOE

Not exactly sure.
The PA Announcer for the State CC and T&F Meets is a State treasure. Can we get him to Jack Trice?
One of the kids classmates parents isn’t fond of him. Their daughter was running and he screwed up her name, even though it’s a pretty common name. She is a freshman and the only success their daughter has had in anything so they were wound up, lol. My last name is always mispronounced so I don’t get worked up about it.

That's an outlier for sure, the guy is doing a live PxP for three straight days with no breaks.

I've found over the years that a "common name" in one area can have a different pronunciation in another area.

My family has known Mike Jay for years. He's the kind of guy that could go perfect for the weekend but that one miss would just crush him. He lives for track and field and making these kids feel special. Likes doing State Track more than all the big time college and professional meets he does Just an awesome guy.

The Tampa Bay Rays have 2 guys on their team named Lowe. One is pronounced low and the other is lau.

If that's why they don't like him... they have HUGE issues. Relax people.

Same here, have known Mike and his wife for 40+ years, they are two of the kindest most sincere people you will ever meet. This championship was probably just a little bit more special than some with Columbus Junction coming in second in 1A. Needless to say I’m a big fan his.

I don't believe that state track in Iowa uses a wind gauge.

I only ever see wind readings on HS results at Drake Relays, but never at the state meet.
Thanks. I have just gotten so used to seeing them elsewhere, it stuck out to me when I didn't see them on the results

He literally puts out multiple requests for days on end for coaches to email him with pronunciations. One would have to have their head in the sand to miss. If he got a name wrong, it's because coaches didn't send it in. Every heat of every race, he has a separate page of paper with his notes of pronunciations, past performances, and accolades.

He puts information out to coaches to send in pronunciations to not have that happen. He understands how important it is to a kid when he mentions his/her name.
