Who did you hate when they played, now you like?

Shaq for the same reasons. He is super likable now as a commentator. He was such a bully in the NBA and never a Bull so I never liked him.

I really can't tell if I love or hate Shaq for his rap music attack on Kobe. I don't know if I should even bring it up for those who haven't heard it, the world is probably better without the knowledge.

Disliked everyone that played for or coached for KU basketball for the last 30 years except for Paul Pierce (played for the Celtics). I like him now.

Kobe, as a MJ guy I looked at Kobe as coming for MJ's legacy, and the off the court stuff in Colorado (fwiw Kobe is and will always be closer to MJ than LeBron) but when I saw the relationship those guys had and what Kobe was doing post retirement especially for women's basketball with his daughter I totally became a fan. It's still hard to believe he's gone. :(

Is Kobe closer to Jordan because they played the same position? It’s just wild to me all the Jordan and James comparisons. One is clearly the greatest guard of all time, the the other is the greatest forward of all time.

Jordan’s edge is his rings, but that stat doesn’t count with the players with more rings than Jordan for some reason.

I think the case regarding this isn't necessarily the number it's that in title appearances he went 6 for 6.

Regarding Kobe and MJ it's not the same position it's that they share the same "god mode" mentality. When they sensed blood in the water they went for the throat.

I’ll probably get flamed for this, and it’s not a great example since he’s still playing…. But I love George Kittle now. It def helps that BCB is throwing him the ball… but he just seems like a good dude and he’s obviously a damn good player.

This. I like him even more after listening to him on Theo Von’s podcast. It was the first time I really heard him speak more than a sound clip. Seems like a really genuine dude.

Not sure this fits the question, but the first person that came to my mind was Jeff Gordon. Couldn’t stand him as a driver, but he seemed alright as an announcer.

Tom Brady for me. Leaving New England helped and then him drunk tossing the Lombardi trophy fully won me over.
This is me as well. I think it had to do with me being a Steeler fan and hating the Patriots and their success. Seems like a really good guy now that he's not playing for a conference rival!

A statement I would have to agree with. I also get more agitated when we lost in basketball than in football.

In football though, it's the fans that drive the irritation IMO. Not the players. It is very much the players in basketball, because most of their fans don't give a crap unless they're competing well heading into March.
Same here. I can’t really think of an Iowa football player in recent years that I disliked. I just hate their fans, the Ferentzes and all the dumb sports media in this state that think Kirk is a good guy.

Aaron Swartzendruber, K-State. Iowa kid, always played lights out against us, just a huge thorn in our sides. I first got to know his dad, who was a high school AD, and later met Aaron and we still have some mutual friends. Genuinely great dude.

Anybody who watched Jordan and James as an adult knows Jordan was better. It's not close really. Kobe was better than LeBron as well. I'd take Bird in his prime over LeBron.
