What’s funny is that I didn’t even mention anything political in my post.
Yes I know, however it seems you are trying to bait this thread into that territory. I'm indifferent on whether he visits or not. I don't agree with him, but he was a great player for ISU so I feel he has that right. He hasn't been convicted of murder or the like so I don't see why the school should completely disavow any connection with him.

ISU kindof has to walk a tight rope here

Royce has been quite problematic, but it is obviously bad business to cut ties with alumni and former players. A lot of college coaches flat out lie to NBA scouts during the draft process because they don't want to be seen as anti-player and hurt recruiting. Villanova coach this year comes to mind.

I’ll always remember that Kentucky game, he was the best player on the court that game. I believe Iowa state played kentucky the closest of anyone the whole tournament? Don’t remember exactly.
I bought tickets for my son and I from a Louisville fan pretty cheap. He and other Louisville fans wanted us to fill up the place and beat Kentucky. We were surrounded by UK fans. They were impressed with our team and how many fans we brought.

Ignoring the political optics of it which is what I was doing, him personally isn’t close to being an upstanding human being. And it certainly doesn’t mesh with the type of culture Otz is building here.

Single handedly kept ISU from getting run out of the gym in that game, that Kentucky team was incredible. And he left Drummond spinning circles in the UCONN game in the first round, after posterizing him to start the game.
My son and I sat 3 rows behind the UCONN bench and during a timeout Coach Calhoun jumped into Drummond face. He got so close at one point that Drummond leaned back and put his hands behind his head. I heard Calhoun tell Drummond that if he wanted to talk to the press about how superior he was to Royce he better back it up. He told Drummond that Royce was the better player(in some different verbiage).

Calipari was interviewed at halftime of the game against us. He compared Royce to Charles Barkley.

Heck of a player at ISU. That season was a lot of fun. Massive dbag off the court.
Have to disagree with the dbag comment, at least in my interaction. Was with my kids at Applebees one day (about 11 years ago - wow, time flies). My kids would have been about 7 and 8 at the time. He was in the waiting room waiting on a table, as we were. He overheard one of them say "that's Royce White". He looked over (and down) at them and chatted them up for a couple minutes. He couldn't have been more kind, nice, accommodating, patient, etc. I choose to remember that part of him. And thank him for that.

I'm sure that's how many people remember him at Orchard Place too.
Royce did some good.

I have to agree. Met Royce back when playing at Iowa State. Was definitely very nice and polite in person.

Royce publicly represented ISU well during his time here. Since he's left he has definitely put plenty of abhorrent statements in the public sphere, not to mention his child support issues. Hopefully there is a redemption arc to his story someday.

I think Royce's heart is truly in the right place. But the mental illness thing isn't made up, and it's not just anxiety about flying. He's got some brain worms going on, and that's not a political commentary.

He's also had some unhelpful people around him, and apparently just bad judgment about who to trust and other decisions.

I wish him the best in life, I think he really wants to make the world better place and be a good person.
Probably could start with child support.
