The new Big 12 is bereft of actual rivalries. Maybe if the league stays at 12 it'll come back to a yearly deal, but the games have typically been at a high level and been a decent barometer for the team. I could care less if we play BYU or Houston twice. They've been the kind of games that people tune in for.

Lots to dislike about a 14-team league with no divisions, and no respect for history. Really not excited for the round-robin to be gone, but if you try and look for positives:

- We get K-State H/A
- We avoid playing at Phog Allen
- We also avoid @ TT, @ WVU, places we have struggled to win
- Of the 9 road games, only 3 will be in front of good crowds (BYU, Cincy, K-State)…makes it easier for us to win when there is no one at the game

I would have liked the KU game to be home and home and the houston game to be rotating. Just a damn shame the Big12 discarded a long standing series like that.
Keep in mind the 14-team league is only for a year, and even if there is further expansion it’s likely the “matrix” changes again when new schools enter.

Agree on the dislikes. Agree on the positives.

This schedule feels like payback for the tough FB schedule.

Oh 100%. OU drops off after this year, thats a home and home per the schedule. Someone will have to fill. But I don't want home and home against both Houston and KU, that would be a BRUTAL schedule. Especially with where Houston is right now in their program.

If we stay with the 12 schools and 18 games, you’ll get 7 of the other 11 schools home & home instead of only 5. It will also probably mean the whole matrix will have to be re-done anyway.

One of the downsides to conference realignment/expansion. Games that have been played every year for almost a century aren't going to be played.

Swapping out KU for Houston with a home/home isn't much of a drop off, IMO. Maybe Houston will drop off a bit being in the Big 12 but I think Houston will still draw.

BYU on the other hand will draw because it's got a huge fan base.

I get that on the surface you look at it and go, "oh gross no way" but I think the quality of the game will be just fine. BYU is probably going to be a bit down but Houston will be good again.

Cause there is no better win than a win at Kansas. Plus games there are fun. They are fans that care and it’s one of the best atmospheres in college basketball.
you mean the 1 win we get every 20 years?

BYU fans care and Houston fans care, too. Houston averages a sell out each game and I'd imagine BYU does but I didn't look them up.

You win the best atmospheres in college basketball argument, though.

To me playing in Phog Allen was pretty close to playing with house money; the tournament resume is not hurt much with a loss but a win there is a big help.
can we say the same with houston, though? At least for this upcoming season.

We knew it was coming but home/home with BYU is such a joke. Would infinitely rather play against a hateful 8 school all day
if were talking wins/losses - id rather go play on the road at BYU over tech/wvu.

Would you rather swap it with Texas where we’ve only won there like twice ever? Who cares if we lose it most of the time. People still want to see it. It’s more exciting than watching us play in a dead gym. Plus if it’s the difference of us being 3rd or 4th in the Big 12, then who cares?

But there isn't anything "dead" about going to BYU or Houston.

Now, Tech? sure. Oklahoma or Oklahoma State? For sure. I'm sure UCF will feel like a funeral when we go down there.

I don't get this BYU/Houston doesn't have a following or fan support argument.
