We bought a used jet boat and the first time we had the kids out tubing and I got the rope stuck in the impeller. Got it towed, got it on land and got it fixed and back to our dock. Go down to go boating with the kids the next day and the damn keychain breaks and the only key we had falls into the lake. The kids went and swam at the beach and I sat in that boat staring into the abyss for an hour or so, contemplating why God hated me.

We're the other way. We need to get a spare truck key and store in the boat (we keep a spare boat key already in it).

I fish and duck hunt so on the Mississippi a lot. Thankfully no mishaps for me, although I did some stupid stuff in my late 20'S.

Other than shaking my head a lot a boat ramps if I fish on weekends, I saw a crazy accident at Big TImber one summer about 18-20 years ago. If you know the area you know there is a big stump field just on the other side of the Island at the launch. I was bass fishing and a bass boat came in from the Mississippi at Kilpeck full speed. He hit a stump just right and went flying. The transom broke and the motor was barley attached. We got to him AFAP and took him to Muscatine Hospital. He was checked out and released. The authorities said they would contact family and make sure he got to his truck and trailer so we didn't wait and went back to get my boat. I still see that guy flying like Biliew will be doing in Hilton this winter!

Hanging out at the boar ramp, especially early in the season can be very entertaining.

I thought about doing this but I would charge $20.

Agreed. It's like watching a divorce.
Luckily, wife and I have it down really well.

We bought a fishing tritoon this spring. Hubby has owned smaller fishing boats in the past & has years of experience hauling/backing trailers. Me - not so much. Our goal is for me to be comfortable enough to drive/unload/load the boat and he will be the one to back the truck/trailer. For now, I hold the boat at the dock while he gets/parks the truck/trailer. He's gone out once by himself and was slightly surprised it was easier to manage by himself than he thought it would be.

One thing we also decided to do was take the MN Boating course, even though it wasn't required.

In our case this is what happens:
We get in rigging line, undo transom straps, loosen bow strap for about 1' of slack.
I back down until fenders are submerged. I get out and get into boat, wife then gets into truck. I back boat off and she goes and parks truck/trailer. I come back and she'll hop off dock into boat.
When we're done, she drops me off at dock, I back truck and trailer down and she loads boat. She stays in it, trims up, while I hook up bow strap. I pull up to rigging area, she deals with the inside, I deal with the outside.
Perfect method for us.

About a week ago I am waiting in line to get my boat out of water and this poor bastard forgets to hook his safety strap to his boat before pulling out, and the boat slides off the trailer. He had to go in reverse and push the boat back in the water with his trailer while scraping the crap out of that boat. Luckily the boat doesn’t look very expensive so his pride is what took the most damage probably.

This is Gray’s Bay on Minnetonka.

Went trotlining on the Mississippi Thurs and Fri night, unexpected storm caught us on the sandbar Sat. Cold ride back with all out downpour. Ended up not getting lines out because of another storm from 7-10 that wasn't in the forecast either. Caught 15 catfish between the two good weather nights, can't wait to smoke them. Headed back Friday for a couple more nights of setting out.

I can't figure out who has the most invested in that F up? The guy with his foot on the trailer is either the owner and trying to act like this isn't a bid deal, or friend of a friend who finds this quite amusing.

Yes, the guy with his foot on the trailer is the owner, and the other two guys were just trying to see if they can help. But there is not much a person can do to help that situation.

The mishap is every time my family offloads or loads the boat onto the trailer.....if you can make it through that, you can make it through anything

Boated on Blackhawk Lake at Lake View this weekend. Second only to Saylorville as the "any dumbass can drive a boat" lake. Boat is ready when we pull to the ramp. Wife idles it off the trailer and sits 100 yards off the dock while I park. 30 seconds max. Not Lake View. 20 people standing on the dock like they know what they're doing. Dumbass throwing dummies off the dock for Rover with 3 more boats coming in and going out. Kids bawling. Dads screaming. Moms ********. Good central Iowa family entertainment.

I learned on the Mississippi River where if you're being a moron, your boat could end up floating downstream to a destination unknown. Weekend warriors driving daddy's boat are my favorite.

Any other boat owners just live in a constant state of anxiety while using their boats? I'm triple checking the plug, trailer straps, chain, worry about every little noise difference I hear in the motor etc. I just have a newer Lund 16ft fishing boat. I still love to use it, but almost always think I screwed something up either trailering it or using it.

I was launching my boat at Big Creek once and this entire family of about 6 people had setup shop right on the boat ramp.

I had to walk around their coolers, chairs, and about 12 poles in the water just to get my boat launched. Then they were looking at me like I was invading their space.

I left them a nice wake as a left.

Yeah, my anxiety runs at high levels when I'm on my boat. The places I fish I alwasy worry about getting stuck on standing timber and not being able to get off of it.

I haven't been at it very long, but yes. I just operate under a belief that every time I try to start it the motor won't start. We at least have a dock that reduces the pulling on/off to a few times a year. But I'm always pretty damn relieved to have the thing back and tied up each time.

I fish on some lakes in South Dakota that have a ton on flooded timber. I've been fishing there for 15 years and still always worry I'm gonna hit a stump at full throttle. Drives me crazy lol

Saylorville can be really bad when lake and river levels are high. I never feel very comfortable on a boat on there.

What sucks about Iowa is that we just don't have many places where you can boat so many a lot of the lakes are really busy. Okoboji and Clear lake are absolute sh!t shows.
