Interesting to see how the roster make up has changed in the CMC era. Significant shift in region since he took over in 2016.

So Florida is considered to be South?

Seeing a Florida and Texas drop off ain't great. Probably lose more from Texas as they can't play in Austin anymore for their family to see. I don't think adding Houston does much for that.

Biggest gain is MO which doesn't seem promising, however these classes have been rated pretty good and I trust CMC so meh.

Trust the process! lol

We weren't exactly getting the cream of the crop from FL and Texas.

I'll take a strong hold on Midwest over getting leftovers from the south. That didn't work out for Prohms, and it didn't really work out for Rhoads.

I would argue that reducing dependence on tx, fl, and ca is probably a good thing for ISU.

Iowa State was not getting top tier talent from those states... you are better off getting the best of the midwest (+26) than fighting with everyone else for the leftovers in tx/fl/ca (-30).

If you can get talented guys in those states, go for it. But better off focusing on states closer to you and building a reputation/brand with those HS coaches and kids.

If you are a national brand, you can go in and get top tier talent from the top states. If not, you just get the kids everyone else passed on.

Very true. I agree, we were probably getting week old leftovers from those areas.

First - I always like Paul Rhoads.
But he recruited way too many Texas kids that nobody else wanted. Love the current geographic recruiting strategy for both FB and MBB.

Yeah, nothing like prying low 3 and 2 star Texas kids away from the likes of Rice and UTEP.

CMCs focus on recruiting the midwest hard(while sprinkling in tx/fl kids) over going hard after lower tier texas and florida kids makes for a much more sustainable program.

AZ should have two right? Eli Sanders and Q. Adams. That little pipeline has been the most fun to see so far.

I like the fact that we're no longer depending so much on Texas/Florida leftovers. Those are definitely two very fertile recruiting states, but there's nothing magical about getting guys from those states after they've already been picked over. It's kind of like going to Home Depot at the end of the week and expecting to pick out a nice straight 2 x 4.

I love how CMC has flipped away from the south and relies on the Midwest much more. I feel like it’s easier to find diamonds in the rough in the Midwest. Every recruiting service covers the south so heavily and guys can go unnoticed up here. The guys we got from the south were guys that had no real options in the south

Uh, what else would it be? East?

From a football point of view (and just about any other POV I can think of) it's absolutely south.
On the Atlantic ocean and filled with New Yorkers. Rather Eastish.

Florida is in the SEC. Florida State is in the ACC. Both conferences have the concept of East-ness in their names.
