But without a way to break the GOR, it's just noise. It's meaningless and inconsequential, other than as a message from the school to their fans & donors that they're trying their best.

When/if one or more schools file a lawsuit to break the GOR, I believe there may be a plausible legal strategy. Until then, it's not really worth discussing ACC schools to the B10/SEC/B12 before the early 2030s.

But they can break the GOR, they just have to pay.

I think if one of those leaves, if for the Big12 or Big10, then the conference starts to loose it's prestige. They'll backfill with G5 schools, but I think it will struggle to stay afloat and be competitive.
If the big brands leave and they have multiple spots to backfill, then the PAC and the MWC are merging or the PAC is dissolving. the PAC doesnt have the funds to pay exit fees and backfill without the big brands to at least boost an eventual media deal.

Why would you want to join the PAC12 right now? At best you are joining a dying conference that still has 0 media deal or proposal for one. These schools might want to be in whatever conference emerges from the left overs but right now why tie yourself to a sinking ship? I don't believe this at all

A diminished PAC 12 is probably still better than what ever conference those other schools are in. At least in a diminished PAC 12, there is the possibility they may still get a seat at the big boy table, which they don't get in their current conference. Additionally, they would have an opportunity to at least prove they can play at this level and maybe prove that they deserve a better media deal than what ever G5 conference they are currently in.

Yeah, it may not stick, but at least they get to have these benefits for a while with a chance at maintaining them.

Don't disagree. But I would bet that the PAC would expand, only because of the brand name. Yeah, it's been drug through the mud the last year, but I believe the PAC is a better brand than the MWC.

Because whatever deal eventually is signed, it's almost 100% certain to be better than the 7 mil or less that these teams make in the American, CUSA, or Sunbelt or whatever
but you are paying or requiring the aquiring conference to pay a large exit fee.

-a team owes the MWC 34 million dollars in order to break the GOR
-houston, cinci, and UCF are paying 18 million each to the AAC to break theirs and join the big 12
-i am not sure about Conf USA but it has to be 7-8 figures
-etc...

I just don’t know what people have been watching for the past year that would lead them to be confident that the PAC can do anything at this point. Remember when they tried to expand like a few weeks ago? How did that go?

Even if Oregon and Washington leave for the Big Ten at the next renewal, they add great value to the league while they're here. It's about making money and you might as well make the money now even if it isn't permanent.

As much as I hate Nebby, I can see Yormark giving them a call and Nebby thinks about it. If THAT happens, Big 10 starts to be a little shaky.

this just doesnt work. they cant just do it becasue they want to. and if it was really the brand you are describing than they wouldnt be in this situation.

they simply dont have the money to do so without their big brands. they might keep the name PAC in their eventual merger with the MWC, but they are taking more than half the teams in the MWC at that point or whatever the threshold is for dissolving the conference.

Why would they think about it? There is no way they'll leave the Big 10. Heck, if the Big 10 called ISU today and asked them to join (which will never happen), ISU would say yes instantly and many of our fans would support it.

CUSA has a $1M exit fee. They got decimated last time and the only two schools that would even be close to attractive to anyone right now are UTEP (Mountain West) and Western Kentucky (Sun Belt).

It's basically a league that's a lifeline for FCS teams desperate to move up.
