The old "everybody does it so it's ok" defense.

Bold strategy, Cotton

Yeah, that's not exactly a denial, despite the initial sentence declaring him not guilty. If anything it seems like an admission.

"Everyone shares accounts so you can't make it a crime". There's a big difference between sharing a netflix account and sharing an account so you can engage in illegal activity

So let me get this straight. Dekkers et al bet on games when they weren’t supposed to. At least two bet on their own games. That is really stupid and they deserve all the punishment coming their way.

Having said that were they caught buying selling or using street drugs? No.

Did they commit armed robbery or anything related to gun violence? No.

Did they beat and/or rape fellow coeds? Or subject their teammates to sexual humiliation? No.

Did they concoct some phony grade system? No.

What I want to know is how is Campbell supposed to know about betting apps on personal phones? How could he possibly keep track of that? I don’t know.

In summation, it is all bad but perspective.

"Everyone shares accounts so you can't make it a crime". Well yeah, most people don't share accounts to enable illegal activity.

Not guilty of the crime he’s accused of, which has nothing to do with the bets. The court system doesn’t care about the betting.

I really curious what Dekker's defense will be based on his lawyer pretty much saying he did it but didn't break any laws...

I am not condoning what Dekker's did but his attorney is correct, this is a matter for Iowa State and the NCAA. Under Iowa Code there is no law preventing him from placing the bets, the Iowa Code is specific to the gambling entity that they have to have controls in place to prevent such a thing from happening, but not the individual gambler themselves. I've posted the Iowa Code a few times in one of these threads.

Now the tampering with evidence is a no no, but can you really tamper with evidence of something that wasn't illegal?
