I got this idea from an entertaining Reddit thread...

What is the weirdest kid name(s) you have personally witnessed? I'm not talking urban legends (Twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello) or any of Elon Musk's kids' names.

I have a few, all from working in an urban school district in Illinois:

-Pepsi (self-explanatory)

-Hitachi (was the first thing the parents saw when trying to think of a name their VCR brand or something?)

-Sobriety (the mother was addicted for 8 previous kids, but not for this one!)

Grandparents lived on a farm in SW Iowa and their neighbor down the road had the last name Hogg. The wife's name was Ima.

...Ima Hogg.

NOTE: That may not be the kind of name you're looking for but it's still hilarious

Similarly, there was a very good Iowa high school girl's basketball player in the early 70s from I think Newell Fonda. Her name was Fonda Dicks.

Once upon a time, at a previous job, a group of us were taking a break, and the subject of children's names came up. One woman, probably 19 years old, said that she had a name that she'd been saving for her first born child, but she didn't want to share it because she didn't want anyone to take it. We goaded her for a while, and finally she told us... "Annemosity" (her spelling, but pronounced exactly how you think)

She got mad when people started laughing, and telling her that would be a terrible name for a child, but she was adamant that it was the name she would choose. "I've always just liked the sound of it."

No idea if she ever followed through.

VCR was not the first Hitachi branded product that came to my mind...

One of my kids had a classmate named Tequila. They called him Teke. I just assumed too much of this led to his conception but never knew for sure.

Fonda Dicks played for Moravia. I think her brother was Nick Dicks and her uncle was Richard Dicks. My sister played against Fonda. She was a great player.

Behind you
"Mike Hunt, you have a telephone call from D*ck at the swimming pool office. Mike Hunt, you have a call from D*ck."

Summer days in the 1980s were fun.

I know someone who named their child Maverick.

Oh, your son is terrible following directions? What do you expect, you named him “Maverick.”

Lady in Hy Vee was yelling Carpenter really loud and we were confused until her kid, named Carpenter, came running over. Terrible name.

My wife worked with someone with the last name Wood. They gave all of the boys in his family the middle name Scott... Not a first name, but still ridiculous... try saying John Scott Wood without laughing.

Wife was a teacher in DMPS. Had one student named Female (pronounced fuh-mall-E). There were others but that one sticks out.

Went to a River Bandits game last week. One of the players' names is River Town. First name River (like River Phoenix) and last name Town (like the building at ISU).

Not a personal tie, but I'm a baseball and hockey fan. A few years back, an MLB team (Braves?) drafted an IFA kid named Jose Jose. Just this year, my NHL team (Blackhawks) drafted a college forward named Marcel Marcel. Both names crack me up and get me thinking about that Seinfeld episode where they attend the performance of "Rochelle Rochelle." Who names their kid the same name twice?
