I'm hoping that Eli Sanders can take some major steps forward this year. I wasn't real impressed by what I saw from him last season.

Sanders needs a hole, he gets an open seam I think he has the ability to get big yards. Problem is he doesn’t make holes or run through many tackles

I'm not sure if anyone is hyping up UNI.

ISU has had problems with them when UNI has had marginal teams.
This is where I am at too. UNI uses their entire offseason to prepare for whatever FBS team they play (ISU this year). A win in that game is worth more than 2-3 FCS losses. I firmly believe we have (& have had) the better team, but the games don't look pretty because of the difference in the amount of preparation each team utilizes to get ready for the game (i.e. 1-2 weeks vs 1-2 months).

Ideally the talent gap should mean ISU just needs to play clean and should pull away in the second half, just playing vanilla.

For the life of me I cannot figure why Farley would "hate" Iowa State.

Iowa State plays them nearly every year and gives them a pretty good chuck of change for doing so. Iowa does not. UNI's budget gets a big lift from this game. Not that I expect him to get down on his knees and kiss Pollard's ring or anything like that, but for him to HATE Iowa State seems bizarre

From my view, Farley has that "big frog in a small pond" attitude about him anyway.

Sorry to have derailed this thread a little.
Spoiler: Mark pretty much hates everyone, especially those that aren't in purple.

I don't think there's any extra disdain for Iowa State over anybody else, it's just who's next on the schedule and he has all summer to think about it.

Breece's vision was amazing. As a back, the hole may not always be exactly where you expect it to be. The great backs feel this and adjust. Breece had great feel. He was so good that he would often talk about watching the linebacker and the safety as he took the handoff. He didn't even need to watch the linemen, he could just feel what was happening at the line of scrimmage.

I thought all of our young backs struggled last year with this. The line struggled last year, but there were also times when the backs seems to just run into the pile or would hesitate because they did not see the play develop around them and miss a hole that was available. I thought they got better later in the year, but we need them to be much better this year. A lot of this comes from being comfortable and the game slowing down as you get more experience.

They may have quite literally struggled with finding holes because they weren't there to start with, even in practice.

I remember David Montgomery got to a point late in his junior year where he would hesitate right at the hand off, and I wondered if it was because he was so conditioned to getting the hand off and having to figure it out from there.

It will be interesting to see how Montgomery does with the Lions. They have a pretty good offensive line and their backs had good production in the red-zone. The Bears O-line last year was terrible.

It's all contingent on him staying healthy, but if Norton is able to play a lot this year I'm expecting big things. I think he can be a very solid, physical back. Not exactly a hot take lol, but thought I'd share.

Breece was so special. That’s the bottom line

I'm of the belief that the NCAA will just treat this as a wrist slap from here. If there is a suspension and the student athlete wants to appeal the suspension, this will become a nationwide issue. There are lawyers that specifically study this type of law. If they are given the opportunity to work this case on behalf of any student athlete, this will blow up in the NCAA;s face, IMO

Unless you rack up big losses and start chasing it. That's how point shaving gets started.
Probably belongs in the gambling thread, but oh well...

The betting apps these kids are using are not issuing large lines of credit like bookies in the old days. You have to put in money in advance, so it's hard to dig yourself a big hole. Not saying it can't happen, but it's not like someone is coming to break your legs if you get behind.

Just saying, I don't see this argument being as relevant as in the past.
