It's only a matter of time until players start to throw college games......it will be widespread.....
Arland Bruce bet the under in a few games he played in last year at Iowa. That is basically the same thing since he played offense. Cue the BJ jokes!

Agree, would like to see these laws applied equally to all collegiate athletes in every state.
I’m sure everyone would but if you think these laws will be enforced in states like Louisiana, Tennessee, Michigan and Ohio you’re CRAZY. The “DCI” or whoever launches said investigation in those states would become public enemy #1 if for example Jaden Daniels for LSU or Marvin Harrison Jr or Blake Corum for Michigan is/are potentially investigated.

It's just amazing to me that they could be taught in no uncertain terms to stay away from this, and doing it would jeopardize their futures, and they did it anyway.

I'm sure this will be an unpopular opinion, but I think I'll pass on all the talk about our program's great culture for awhile. I understand they can't babysit every player at all hours, but I can't ignore that we had starters and team leaders who were cool with breaking the most basic of rules in some enormously destructive ways.
A handful of guys doing something like this isn’t a huge indictment on the program’s culture. It’s more of an indictment on their lack of self control. Young adults are going to be idiots. The only thing you can do is kick them off the team (which it looks like that’s happened) and have it be a learning moment. If this continues to be an issue, then maybe there’s a larger issue but cmon, looks like we just have a case of idiot college kids thinking they were smarter than they really are.

Lee is a special kind of stupid if he truly did bet against Iowa State in a game he played in. I know he seems like a nice kid, but if that's true I hope the rumors he has a coaching spot are false. Can't have that as a cloud around the program

Can just see all the SEC big donor alumni having special meetings with their state legislature folk.
"Hey ya know this gambling thing in Iowa is just a shame. Bringing light on them that's not what we want. How about you accept this suitcase as a travel perk. Anybody even suggests maybe we should look into this you just start sharing. Let me know if you need more."

Just stop. They didn't break into a vending machine or cheat on a test. This stuff puts careers and programs in jeopardy.

When your supposed team leaders are doing it then .... yah. That's deeper than stupidity.

Be funny if it wasn't true.

I seriously doubt that.

First of all NIL money pays way more than any point shaving type scheme ever would. Point shaving was never very lucrative payout wise. But players who were really strapped for money back in the day might be susceptible.

Any point shaving scheme has to be kept somewhat small in nature because any type of huge money coming in that runs contrary to the handicappers will be flagged as suspicious.

Plus, the players you need to guarantee a fix (tank job) are elite skill position guys who are already making fat stacks in NIL.

I sort of feel sorry for these guys, but damn it they were told do NOT do this. Sometimes actions have consequences.
Their loss, I think I could have not bet for free education, top notch athletic care, nutrition, stipend, swag and maybe some NIL cash. (No idea if any if these guys were receiving NIL I assume Deckers was)
I know Lee has a deal, my friends mom is part of the company that sponser him

I'd be curious to know how well he played in that game vs his other games.

I don't think it's a huge problem but when your supposed team leaders are doing it then it's not good.

Yeah I agree. Even with this investigation, none of the players bet anything close to enough to make anyone think about throwing a game over.

Just a bunch of guys trying to use insider knowledge to make some "easy" money off the casinos. As Lee found out, sometimes that insider knowledge didn't guarantee a winning bet.

That's the other sad fact about all of this. These guys were risking their careers to place $100 bets or less. I know young men are renown for their sense of invincibility but jeopardizing your career (and thousands in scholarship money) to win a $100 bet is just breathtakingly stupid.

Coaching spot HAS to be false. That would create a stratospheric spin on the decision making of the coaching staff. You're hiring a kid who bet on the team to lose.... on a game he played in? WTF
