A handful of guys doing something like this isn’t a huge indictment on the program’s culture. It’s more of an indictment on their lack of self control. Young adults are going to be idiots. The only thing you can do is kick them off the team (which it looks like that’s happened) and have it be a learning moment. If this continues to be an issue, then maybe there’s a larger issue but cmon, looks like we just have a case of idiot college kids thinking they were smarter than they really are.
I tend to agree about ISU having a strong culture. And Campbell is a solid leader and standup person.

But there is definitely a problem when 4 upper class leaders bet on Iowa State contests.

I was disappointed in Jamie's interview on 365Sports yesterday. When he was asked about gambling issue, he minimized player accountability. He basically blamed the apps for having notifications that encouraged kids to bet. That comment was based on his interviews with the accused players. He also said that ISU need to refocus their compliance training.

The only way I can minimize, is gambling similar to smoking marijuana back in the day? Even though it was illegal AND there was potential to be tested- players still smoked and risked a lengthy suspension.

Man, Brock is going to have the weirdest career I can remember for a football player. One of the highest ranked recruits ever at ISU, plays behind two NFL backs, gets his chance/gets hurt, then gambles away his senior year.
Really sad. I was a HUGE fan given that he stuck around under those two. He could have transferred somewhere good given his high school rankings.

This is a dumb question but how are NIL deals paid? Is it “per appearance” or all up front? Do these guys have to repay NIL money?

Side bar—-I remember my aunt telling me stories about ISU athletes frequenting Meskwaki with their per diem money shortly after it opened in the 1990’s. Not defending these guys but it’s just too easy these days to get caught.

To be clear, I don't have a real strong opinion on this and probably won't until we know all the facts.

But at least for me, the days of treating Campbell's every decision as above reproach are over.
Seems like Campbell knew more than the rest of us.

Smoking pot does not lead a player to cheat, just eat.

Wonder if Jamie is aware that a betting app can't send you notifications if it isn't on your phone. Which, come to think of it, seems like a pretty basic thing to check from a compliance standpoint.

Lee is a special kind of stupid if he truly did bet against Iowa State in a game he played in. I know he seems like a nice kid, but if that's true I hope the rumors he has a coaching spot are false. Can't have that as a cloud around the program
And we won lol

Time to move on and support the guys in the program.

Knowing the details of what these guys did makes it hard to feel sorry for them now. It makes it clear that we are better without them as leaders in the program. I think most of us were expecting they were making small bets on pro games or something minor. Most were betting on our games. How Stupid.

It's just a very bad look for your program when you tout a 5 star culture and the guys who are supposed to be the leaders are gambling on their own games.
Yeah I do agree. I guess I wasn’t thinking through it all.

I didn’t listen so I can’t comment about his comments sorry! But yeah ISU is 100% going to be refocusing their compliance training lol.
