I don't understand how they bet on their own Team. That seems like so crazy. Even for college students

Lee seems like biggest lost out of the guys. Time to rally around the remaining players. Hopefully season starts and they can focus on football

Here's the thing, this is all electronic. If another state does a crackdown in two years, even if you stopped gambling now that this has happened in Iowa, those records will still be available and you'll be suspended.

I'm curious how this goes because I can see it going a few ways. One is that none of the other states go anywhere near this. Another is that given how much betting on their own team was found in Iowa, do the governments of the various other legal betting states order an audit of the gambling in their state. A third is given the fact that it's the casino's and gambling industry that's in jeopardy of losing a **** ton of money if these governments pull back on gambling do they do a full audit of the gambling in each state themselves?

LOL no FB state Tx, La, Al, Ga, Miss, etc.. will investigate.

I don't know if the gambling thing was reinforced in a weekly meeting, but if I were a coach I would spend a few minutes a week with the entire team present and reinforce it.

I'm assuming you're including the Hawkeyes in this statement.

It appears that the Athletic Dept. vastly underestimated these impulses when that failed to account for it in their compliance training. It takes time to adapt to the changing betting landscape, and apparently they were caught flat-footed.
Yeah this is BS. Every athletic dept has a compliance officer that talks every year about gambling and that you will lose eligibility if you do it. None of these guys are freshmen. They have heard the talk from compliance. They just didn’t give a ****.

What? I am pretty sure every player from every sport knows you aren't supposed to gamble. That's been reported ad nauseum. Did I miss something?
Drug addicts know they aren't supposed to do drugs too - IT DOESN'T MATTER - this isn't kids being stupid & this doesn't happen to just kids - we're ALL being deranged by our phones - the only difference is you & I aren't the starting QB of a P5 football team - someone earlier said these kids look around & see this all as normal behavior, everyone's doing it - they're half right, everyone IS doing it, but its not normal - our brains are being re-wired & we don't even know it

So what was the difference between 2021 and pre-legal gambling by app? Did the appeal, temptation and accessibility not increase 1000-fold?
Sports betting for an NCAA athlete is the equivalent of selling a fentanyl laced pill in the real world. You know it is the death penalty. Shouldn’t need to be reminded every day of it.

Given all the players at Iowa and ISU who bet on their own games, I think there will be a lot of pressure on the NCAA and law enforcement to conduct investigations of universities all across the nation.

The integrity of the collegiate athletics is at stake. Don't see how the NCAA can ignore these latest developments.

Im super curious how coach reacted to this behind closed doors when he originally found out about it. Think he flipped out on anyone?

I agree but they let kids get bags full of cash, parents getting cars and houses, coaches passing out money to agents…for decades before they finally said ah heck, give ‘em some NIL money.

I would love to see an FBI expose of the blue bloods. It’s not fair that Iowa is the only state investigated.
Hey at least we know the Great State of Iowa holds itself to a higher standard! Feels great, right guys?

If there's one thing we can ALL agree that will bring this state together in these divided times, it's knee-capping our beloved teams while our competition invents new ways to cheat!

I hope DCI and everyone involved is really proud of itself. This is a fantastic use of Tax dollars just about any way you can slice it. Stopping crime where it counts, giving everyone just warm fuzzy feelings of moral purity and what not.

Edit: and yes it's dumb to bet on your own games, but I promise you that stupidity isn't unique to college athletes in Iowa.

This was supposed to be a story about Gambling at Iowa and Iowa State. I'm sad to say at this point this has undeniably turned into a story of:

A) Iowa State players who would have played key roles on this year's team have been found guilty will be severely punished and it will likely alter our season, one way or another.

B) Iowa's upcoming season looks to be completely unaffected by the gambling investigation

Most. Iowa. State. Thing. Ever.

Time to move on and support the guys in the program.

Knowing the details of what these guys did makes it hard to feel sorry for them now. It makes it clear that we are better without them as leaders in the program. I think most of us were expecting they were making small bets on pro games or something minor. Most were betting on our games. How Stupid.
I've personally been through 0 win seasons. 1, 2, 3 and 4 win seasons.
I'm just excited for ******* football!
Personally, I think 6 wins is not impossible. If they don't hit that, oh well. You move on and hope the new recruits aren't as stupid as the past ones.
I still plan on being at Jack Trice every home game day to celebrate Cyclone football.
I'll keep donating and buying tickets until the day I no longer can. Them I'll give my tickets to family and friends.
Lastly. I had a daughter play D1 athletics. The no gambling is drilled in these kids heads all the time. Some are bigger ******* morons then others.
There's a great chance this open a lot of athletes eyes
