Am curious why Fish and Hamilton didn't get a little more run, given that this was all exhibition. Not going to read into it though.
I think there is a clear separation right now between the top guys at those positions and the freshmen. That's nothing to be ashamed of though, that is to be expected with a team with this kind of talent.

He was already arguably the most physical PG in the league last year and he will be again. He may not make a ton of threes but he'll knock down some throughout the year that'll make the defense more honest than they were last year.

This. I really didn't understand the other comment as getting to the rim (in and of itself) wasn't/isn't the problem. For some reason, when Tamin is PURPOSEFULLY given that space, he hesitates. He was afraid to shoot, afraid to drive and kick, etc. Not shooting threes is one thing, but being completely crippled and mindfucked by opponents backing off is another.

If he shoots 2-3 per game at 30% plus while not hesitating (and forcing) he will be fine. If he somehow does better than that it will (really) pull defenders out and open up the lane. He was one of the best drivers/finishers in the league and probably a top 3ish guard finisher ISU's had the last 20 years...as a freshman.

Just needs to eliminate some freshman yips. Personally I'll be shocked if he doesn't.

Apologies to those of you who've already watched this video, but if you aren't hyped about this season yet, you will be after watching this.

I just love how TJ's teams hang their hat on toughness and physicality. We won't win em all this season, but I think we'll win more than our share. And the teams who do manage to defeat us will know they were in a dog fight. This team will be so fun to cheer for!

I don't want to bring up a bad memory, but the second half of the game in Lubbock last year (where they proceeded to piss away a ~20 point lead) was the most quintessential version of "freshman yips" I think I have ever seen in my life. They got in Tamin's head. I knew there was going to be some point last season where having a freshman PG in the Big 12 was going to cost a game, and that one was the one.

Hopefully that doesn't happen again starting now.

That was poorly managed by the staff. Timeouts should have been used in a more timely fashion and he should have been pulled. Talk to him for a few minutes, re-insert, and see what happens. Instead they left him in until everything began to completely unravel.

It's easy to sit here and criticize but it's one of my biggest pet peeves with coaches. If you are sitting on the sideline your job is to manage the game to the best of your abilities. While yes, the general play of the players is outside the coaches' control, they can help to calm the team, manage the crowd, and utilize timely substitutions based on individual play, foul trouble, and matchups. Nothing irritiTes me more when coaches miss those opportunities, get asked why in a presser, and say "we got outplayed" or some other crap like that. If you aren't going to maximize your presence, why be there?

Not necessarily saying Otz operates that way but I think you know what I mean.

The Mizzou game was pretty bad as well. I was there and they were completely playing off Tamin. While it didnt have the impact of the Tech game as the entire team's game didn't leave Ames, it was noticeable and it consistent throughout.

One of the most significant flaws in the roster last year was the lack of a second viable PG. Holmes did his best but just wasn't adequate in the role even in small bursts. I know it was a symptom of the bad luck forced on the team with the Williams injury, but there were definitely moments where an obviously excellent (for a true freshman PG) Lipsey would have benefited from a spell from an experienced backup.

Thankfully that does not seem like it will be an issue this year with Pav and Gilbert competent in that role.
