His freshman year? I'm pretty sure no
Exactly.
CF right now with this football season and it's weird:
His freshman year? I'm pretty sure no
Every year college football teams lose good players to the draft and/or graduation, and every year those teams replace them with new guys or guys who were backups. It's the nature of college football and fun to watch players grow from being a backup to the starter.
Vaughn is better than Joel Lanning was at the start of the year he got snaps on defense. Joel didn't start figuring things out until honestly about the OU game when he made some big plays. Then it carried over the rest of the season. But even at that, he ended the year as an all american LB. And Mike Rose was a multi year all american and also the defensive POY. You're putting some of these players on pedestals making it easier for your argument if they don't reach that peak. It's not a fair argument lolMaybe I should have said playmakers. Vaughn is not Mike Rose. He's not even what Joel Lanning was.
We'll talk after the UNI game.
If we were any good we'd beat UNI's ass. End of story. I don't care what they are ranked in FCS or how the game has gone in the past. We have 20 more scholarships than they do.I'd love to talk after that game but it's one singular game so even if they do very well I'm not going to rant and rave about it to those who think we're going to suck. History shows it's going to be a tough game, and I'm sure there will be some on here that come out of that game thinking we suck if we only win by even two scores, even though we've had to get incredibly lucky getting out of that game with some of our best talent in school history. Too early of an evaluation imo.
Yeah every time we get beat by UNI I can guarantee you we won't be very good.Has there been a year when the first game indicated how the rest of the season would go? Ever?
Ah yes, the ole "we're better than you on paper and therefore we should win" fallacy. Not how sports work. Sorry to burst your bubble. If that were the case, ISU wouldn't have won a lot of the games they've won over the last 10 years. If we were any good we'd beat UNI's ass. End of story. I don't care what they are ranked in FCS or how the game has gone in the past. We have 20 more scholarships than they do.
Yeah every time we get beat by UNI I can guarantee you we won't be very good.
It's happened 3 times since I've been alive (I'm 28). Two of those years were when we were doormats of the entire college football landscape. The other time was CMC's first year as the head coach. Stop making it sound like UNI has won half the games against us.Yeah every time we get beat by UNI I can guarantee you we won't be very good.
Vaughn is fine but Joel Lanning was second team all big 12 in 2017. Vaughn is a redshirt senior who has never been all big 12.Vaughn is better than Joel Lanning was at the start of the year he got snaps on defense. Thank you for correcting me I was off. I did forget that Lanning got moved there his junior year. My point of that was that placing Vaughn on a pedestal where he's "not as good as an all american" is stupid.Vaughn is fine but Joel Lanning was second team all big 12 in 2017. Vaughn is a redshirt senior who has never been all big 12.
I just looked. UNI has never come within 10 points of an ISU team that has finished with a winning record. Traditionally we've beat their ass when we've had winning records. It's happened 3 times since I've been alive (I'm 28). Wrong, literally back to back games.I just looked. UNI never come within 10 points of an ISU team that has finished with a winning record. Traditionally we've beat their ass when we've had win ing records.
My bad I missed a few Campbell years. Okay so if the game is is close we might finish a game above .500Wrong, literally back to back games.
2021- We won by 6 and we finished 7-6
2019 - We won by 3 in 3OT and finished 7-6
IMO Clanton is coming into a good situation. He has experience with Hufford, Simmons, Treiber and Miller. Maybe we get Remsburg back mid-season. Plus there is a group who have been in the program a couple years and ready for game snaps.Cupboard wasn't bare it was just young. I don't think that's unlike what he's walking into now.

Don't want to minimize the linebacker position in ISU's defense. But seems to me DL and DB are more critical positions to have depth. I like out talent & depth at DB. On the DL, I like our talent- the big question are finding a pass rusher and developing depth.Maybe I should have said playmakers. Vaughn is not Mike Rose. He's not even what Joel Lanning was.
I for one did not notice a big drop off between Young and Freyler. Not sure where you're getting that. Rose was a bigger loss, but not really considering the majority of his senior season he was injured and his level of play was probably only that of a replacement level player such as Reeder or Vance were last year. And if we look at the history of the last 2 years, our regression has been due in large part to an inability to replace those high impact guys we've lost. We've struggled to replace Brock, Breece and Charlie. Huge downgrades in those position performances. Last year we struggled to replace Rose and Young. So I guess that makes me leery that it's just as simple as replacing X or Will or Anthony Johnson. It just hasn't quite worked out that way the last 2 years.
Using those two guys, especially Rose, a 205 pound safety who flipped from Ball State, to make your point is ironic. But they were still better than the backups last year so I don't see how it isn't still a drop in talent. So this program just isn't really talented right now? There isn't even close to as much talent as there was in the program 2 years ago. Where are the new Mike Rose's and Brock Purdy's?
