Yeah, basically all the supposed CyHawk talk turns into the same ****. Whether it was on KXnO or Iowa Everywhere. Both guys talk real, in-depth stuff about the Hawks for the first 75% of the time, then the "Cyclone" portion turns into stupid derailment that is at best something like Hassel going on about the camera perspective of Kohl vs. Becht. But mostly these shows turn into guys like Peterson or Hassel using every ISU discussion as their opportunity to talk about random **** that has nothing to do with ISU, if sports at all.

I appreciate two guys named Chris, and it was interesting, but now that the novelty has worn off, it is getting back to the same crap that plagues every one of these attempts at CyHawk talk.

I suppose this problem is always going to be the case. The problem is you have two programs that in the grand scheme of things don't matter on the national scale, but one fanbase gets it, while the other is full of completely delusional morons that have no clue that pretty much nobody outside our state gives two ***** or even distinguishes between the two programs.

Hawkeye coverage would actually greatly benefit from an outsider coming in and getting a job covering the team. But their media is basically made up of a bunch of lifer fans that have absolutely no understanding of their actual irrelevance in the big picture.
Disagree, I love 2 guys named Chris. If I want pure ISU talk, I’ll listen to Williams & Blum.
2GNC isn’t supposed to be a serious discussion about ISU or Iowa. It’s just 2 friends goofing around & talking sports.

I can take a rivalry joke, but when every topic is littered with condescending comments about Iowa State, it gets old. Like I said, he will barely engage with real ISU discussion.

His bit about ISU being scared to schedule games at night because of lightning was so dumb and petty. We've had two games severely affected and one canceled because of lightning. And I thought CW kinda missed the point. Yes, you do need that extra room if there is inclement weather, but it's also much more common in Iowa for lightning in the late afternoon into the night than it is earlier in the day. Hassel is very confident even when he's completely wrong.
All it would have taken was simple search of tomorrows ESPN+ game times to prove him wrong but CW is way too cordial to Hassel.

Western Carolina @ Arkansas 12pm
Mercer @ Ole Miss 1pm
UNI @ Iowa State 1pm
Akron @Temple 1pm
I wonder what’s the common denominator?

Plus doesn’t the games on ESPN+ give the home team the option to schedule it whenever? Without unbearable heat I could not think of a better game time than 1pm. Don’t have to be there super early and don’t have get home late.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if ESPN+ got to call the shot on that, but it was the same thing last year.

1 pm kicks are ELITE.

A full day of tailgating and game action, and everybody statewide gets home safe without it getting too late.

Only downside to 1-3pm kicks is lack of being able to watch other games, tailgating however is indeed the best. With an 11am kick I'm home by 3pm and can watch a whole afternoon/evening of games. Sure - we stream other games on a TV at our tailgate but not the same as being in the basement in front of a big screen.

I think this is another example of us ISU fans being too sensitive. It’s a podcast and Hassel is the type of guy that likes to joke around. They are badmouthing Iowa just as much. For every joke he says about the clones he has a joke about their terrible offense or the awful atmosphere in Carver

I guess I'm in the minority and I think Hassel gives both sides equal respect and **** (crap). I don't mind his shtick at all. The podcast is what it is, it's sports with some off topic stuff sprinkled in. You want hard hitting Cyclone stuff, go elsewhere I suppose. Just because that is your style doesn't mean 100% of content needs to be tailored for you.

There is a reason it's the #1 pod there, so I think a lot of the vocal minority is showing up here, as with what happens everywhere for everything.

100% agree with both of these takes. I used to hate Hassel, thought he was a huge hawk douche when he was in Iowa. Since he's been on Iowa Everywhere, my opinion has changed completely (sounds like we're not alone, cause CW has mentioned several times that people have told him the exact same thing multiple times in the past year).

Ever notice how he's constantly getting **** from Iowa fans on Twitter? It's cause he's one of the few media people who are critical of their shortcomings. Sure he'll take jabs at ISU, but that's to be expected since he's a hawk fan. It's not constant, and he's talked ISU topics seriously plenty this year & last.

Hassel is fine once you realize what his shtick is. People take themselves way too seriously.

I do think getting out of Iowa has been a good change for Hassel. He's a Hawk through and through, but isn't unrealistic and is not afraid to call out the ******** from Iowa that the in-state media members lap up without question.

Was it Harty that got into it with CH recently? I can't clearly remember.

I like hassel. There I said it. Unrelated, Brend and Ferguson both have tons of potential. Hope Chris keeps hold of both of them

Zero inside information but this seems like someone who thought their value was higher, went out onto the open market, and realized that it was the medium that was popular and not the personality. Happens a lot in the media industry. Hopefully he finds a good landing spot - seems like a decent guy.

But when anyone starts thinking you are bigger than your role, you better be damn sure because the grass is rarely greener on the next move. Being content/happy with your job/role, even if its not perfect (no job is), is my biggest career advice for people 10+ years into their career. MUCH easier said than done.

He said CF was paying him about 30K a year...if that is higher than his actual market value is it might be time to try something else.

The Carl Pepper skit about Iowa shows that he can make fun of Iowa too.

This is probably why I never hated Hassel as much as some others. Wasn't afraid to make fun of Iowa and even got sideways with some folks over in Iowa City IIRC

I love Hassel's stuff on CBSSN and he was amazing on WHO in his early years.

And that's the thing. He IS a huge Hawk douche when it comes to ISU.

Like finding a sugar mama.

In all seriousness, would sports marketing be a viable option with his background? Might have to leave IA, but have to think it pays at least reasonably well, and he'd do well especially if it were a basketball-centric position.

Ferguson might need to watch a few more football games instead of a dirt track race in Oklahoma, but he brings a funny presence.

Nobody is in sports journalism for the pay. A lot of fun but a lot of work for little pay.
