Ohio lost to San Diego State. SDSU is absolutely horrible. Just plain bad. Got rolled today by Oregon State who is about to be demoted out of power 5. ISU lost to Ohio. Keep making excuses, that will help.
You mean an Oregon State team ranked #16? Yeah… good comparison.

Remember last year when Iowa basketball lost to Eastern IL? Any team that lost to Iowa in basketball must also be terrible

I don't think the reaction is a big deal, guy just got his ass handed to him by Ohio he's going to be pissed, it looks bad but I don't think it's a big deal the more I think about it.

The real problem is where points are going to come from.

Campbell isn’t a narcissist. Anyone who has actually interacted with him knows that he is the furthest thing from that.
I mean, we have footage from just today of him losing his cool when him being held accountable is mentioned.

Narcissist? His offensive philosophy for the last 3 years has shown how absolutely stubborn he is.

He absolutely bristles at any critique of his decision making.

A video is circulating of a fan yelling that Campbell is on the hot seat and Campbell turns to go after the guy and needs to be held back by other coaches and players.
This is really disappointing to see for a couple of reasons. Matt Campbell (and I still love him as OUR coach), needs to understand a couple things:
- Going to the Alamo Bowl and Fiesta Bowl while awesome, does not make one immune to criticism for the seasons to follow. I would argue we have not taken any action in progressing the program after the Fiesta Bowl
- He needs to know as well, if he's coaching at another college gig, say a program higher up than ours like a Florida State or a Ohio State, the fan criticism would be 1,000X worse.
- The fans ultimately sign the checks, hate it or love it. I predict next year we see a drop in season ticket sales if this doesn't improve pretty rapidly

Slight disagreement...the problems became obvious a game earlier...during the Thanksgiving weekend game against KSU/Klieman in his third year. ISU's offense was manhandled in that game, and then just completely overwhelmed in the following ND game. Hall under 60 yards in both games. It was a big time red flag that the offense development was significantly lagging. Campbell did nothing. Covid just delayed what is now happening by a year.

I like what a couple of folks said in the threads earlier this week. Campbell isn't coaching to win games; he's coaching to prove that his Toledo philosophy can work at the P5 level. Well, it marginally works when the team has NFL-level talent at a few skill positions. One poster astutley pointed out that Campbell was doing the transfer thing at Toledo well before eveyone else was (kind of like Hoiberg at ISU). He'd get a number of 5th year players from P5 schools every year, so his teams were more athletic than the other teams he played and his system could work.
Mt. Union philosophy, but yes.

Also, his bowl preparation is absolutely awful.

For what his bench warrant is for, treating that fan like that is warranted.
I’ll be honest, I know nothing about the fan. But CMC is acting like Russell Westbrook of the NBA. Just ignore it. You let the fan win by reacting the way he did. It’s true. CMC makes millions, you can’t be so sensitive of fans.

It's not that difficult to win in the MAC when you have an NFL back like Kareem Hunt either.

I am sure this has already been said, but this is the biggest red flag thus far that this turd is circling the drain.

How in TF is he supposed to be this beacon of overcoming adversity and climbing the rough side of the mountain… and then he does this?

The team already doesn’t do any of the **** he says should be their identity.

It is beyond alarming that he is this bothered by being told he is on the hot seat by some random fan.
Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

He just fired one of his best friends (the S&C coach). Let his long time assistant, Manning, go, and people say he hasn’t changed anything on offense.
Best friend? Really. Explain that relationship going back to his college years. Cause those are his best friends.

And we’re gonna find someone loyal enough to stay and be more successful than Campbell? Iowa state isn’t and will never be a blue blood. This is as successful as isu will ever be especially now days with nil. Until the ncaa levels the playing field this is the “most successful” isu will be.
Loyalty is not repeating the exact same game plan with the exact same negative result week after week. This trend didn't just start this season last weekend.

I must not have any since I don’t talk to any of my friends I had in college hardly ever. I’ve learned how to make friends along the way. It’s called growing up I guess.

Obviously don't want your coach to react like that, but doing that is an asshat chicken **** thing to do, as you know that the guy you're yelling at really can't come after you.
Couldn’t you make THE EXACT SAME ARGUMENT about Campbell turning around to confront the guy? What was Campbell going to accomplish there? Nothing, and he knew it. The only difference is one of the two parties are paid millions of dollars to not act like a drunk buffoon.

The gambling thing to me is the biggest red flag of all. At the worst it's lack of institutional control and at the very least it shows blatant disrespect to the coaches and program.

It's even a worse look when it comes from the older players who are suppose to be leaders. To me it proves they aren't really living all these "values" and "culture" behind the scenes that Campbell is always preaching in his pressers.

I'm pretty familiar with Matt's relationship and the firing of Dave. For you to be making statements about his friendship and how that was handled is questionable. Growing up? Maybe you need more of that.

There's absolutely no way there aren't a ton of other programs that have players that gambled that are fine in the 'institutional control' area.

There's plenty of other things that could go into it but gambling ain't it.
