Between the gambling probe, the Ohio loss, the loss to Iowa which makes him 1-7 against them, and now this, I'm struggling to remember a worse 3 month stretch for an ISU football coach. That's a pretty incredible achievement considering our football history. I love CMC and reaching these depths was unfathomable 4 years ago, but here we are.

So I'm torn. That guy was wrong for yelling at the players - reportedly - and also, that is the worst time to approach a coach right after the moment when emotions are hot and especially after a game like that.

That being said, its not a good look and Campbell has to be better than that to turn around like that towards a spectator.

If that guy is the poster child for ISU's fan base, then it is time to disband the program.
You should take a look at his criminal history before you get all excited about identifying with him.

People can be as critical as they want about the merits of Campbell's coaching, but don't ******* pick that loser as a representative of ISU fans. If he is truly representative, then I am leaving the fandom.

Zuriclone is a troll.

How long have you watched ISU football?

I know, but that kind of **** cannot stand unchallenged. Hell, maybe Zuri is that guy.

Campbell is in a tight spot. He should definitely be accountable for his work. He may end up circling the drain or he may get it turned around. I, for one, will hope for the latter alternative, rather than running around posting **** about it.

This video is an embarrassment for both parties.

I take Campbell’s side on this if anything. He obviously cares about the program and I would rather see some emotion to yesterday’s loss than him simply walking by.

There is absolutely NO reason our fans should be jeering our own players and coaches, especially in their own presence.

There are some newly toxic aspects to this fan base that has been rearing its ugly head for awhile now, and it’s frankly disgusting and is causing me to question my own fandom. We are in a very precarious position in today’s college athletic landscape with the introduction of NIL. I’m not surprised CMC is buckling under the pressure.

I will completely eat my words in the future if I’m wrong on this, but I truly think we’re not going to see another coach come in to accomplish what he’s been able to.

I'm not surprised this happened. The entrance/exit off the field was complete cluster. The team had to navigate through fans, the Ohio band which was exiting the field at halftime as our players were trying to get on to the field, concessions and Ohio students. At halftime there was almost a situation with Ohio student and a ISU player.

On top of it all, PA announcer called us Iowa. Just all around bad day for ISU in Athens.

There was a time I’d give Campbell the credit. Now I think Montgomery purdy and hall did what they did in spite of incompetence. Campbell has banked enough to just say **** you all, which he’s already been doing. He probably ramps it up and calls a run on the first 10 plays next week.

And who recruited Montgomery, Purdy, and Hall?

Here's the deal... was that fan a total d-bag that was taking video of it just so he could get it on tape if Matt actually responded to it? Yes. Total idiot fan that should be ashamed of themselves. No doubt.

But the players and coaches must get sh*t yelled at them all the time by fans... especially when on the road. Is that right? No... but it's a fact of life. You HAVE to be better than to actually react to them and give them exactly what they want. Our players, for the most part, just ignore this stuff, as they are taught. It is NOT a good look at all for Matt to lose it like that, and actually says a lot about where his mindset is right now. Being told you're on the 'hot seat' really struck a nerve with him because he knows there's a lot of truth in it.

But Matt should know better... not a good look.

OMG. Haters will magnify this unreasonably. Likers will see the fight in CMC.

Practically, no one will remember this happening across the nation countless times by coaches who are successful by every count and are still at those respective schools.

And for crying out loud, the people saying this is the worst run in Iowa State history are barely out of their crib. The guy can go winless for two years before that's even a concern. And even then, his losses are still closer than any of the losses (san TCU) in those two bleak years.

So, for those 'haters', sit down and shut up. You're ruining the movie. Or, more likely, you'll raise your little pinky and press the all important 'dumb' button, and will hide from comment.

Why wouldn't they just use their index finger?

Players should get a lot of credit for making coaches look good, but it’s also on the coaches to identify the talent and convince them to come to somewhere like Ames.

That's probably gotten a lot harder in the past couple of years where facilities and coaches alone won’t cut it. Add on the fact that you’re trying to ignore a fan base that has a very vocal minority who thinks they know what’s best for the program.

That’s no different from any other large program but what they have (that we don’t) is MONEY.

It just seems like ISU now has a pattern of coaches who seem to burn out FAST after early successes. Paul Rhoads, Steve Prohm, now Matt Campbell. Hell just look at the way Tyrese Hunter was treated after he transferred to Texas.

People say “they need to suck it up that’s why we pay them millions of dollars a year!” but sometimes it’s not about the money. The culture is what will keep people around long term and right now there are some serious problems with ours.
