Ohio is the second leading choice to win the MAC in 2023. Losing to a MAC team is never good. But Ohio was projected to be one of the best teams in the MAC. And the program is far above the 1985 level of bad.

It was a bad loss. But JFC. Get real.
They won 10 games and finished 2nd in the MAC last year. We beat them by 30+.

Tired of people justifying this.

The thing that I keep coming back to is we have a great defense. IMO, that is hard to pull off, especially at ISU. How long in the NIL era can we recruit and keep decently talented defensive players like we have had the past few years? I feel like we are waisting or have waisted huge window of opportunity by not having an offensive scheme that can just be good enough to take advantage of the situation get us these wins. They really do not have to score that many points, yet, they can't do it. Some posted the coaches told him in the off season they were concerned about lack of talent on the offensive line. Why didn't we hit the portal harder? I mean, Jay Norvell did at CSU, he brought in 10 new O-linemen.

Most of their team was 5th-6th year seniors accordng to Walters and Heft on the radio broadcast to start the game.
That has some merit versus a team with a TON of underclassmen playing.

Their whole offensive line were Redshirt seniors or Grad players. Same with their Defensive Line.

To clarify, I'm not defending this loss. We shouldn't of lost. But their whole defensive front 8 are 23 years old. They also stopped FAU from running the ball and they have the highest returning production of any team at 78%.

But experience at some point is better than young talent, especially at the talent levels we're recruiting. We aren't exactly recruiting blue blood young talent that can out match experience.

You do understand that half of those ten played for him at Nevada? A little easier to basically pull players when you change jobs and take a chunk of their OLine with them. Still 5 is solid, but saying he went and found 10 is disingenuous. It's like when the Brands' took all the big wrestlers from VT and brought them to Iowa with them. They were transfers, but not transfers for the coach.

Agree. Bad loss. We got beat. This was a perfect spot for Ohio to play us in Athens. Virus weakens an already weak team the week after playing a big rivalry game. And we are on the road. Campbell must get the offense going. For those who want Campbell gone now. This anemic offense will be gone for sure. Heacock’s Defense will be gone as well. Baby gets thrown out with the bath water. Everything goes. That’s one of the reasons why I am willing to see if it works out.

I don't give a flying jack Sj*t crap if they had 10th year seniors. The apologists are unreal. We are allegedly a Big 12 team playing a freaking Mac team. Yes, a good team, but a MAC team. And got physically whupped as much as I would if I stepped into a ring with prime Mike Tyson.

Hufford - started 3 years, essentially
Miller - 2nd year starting
SImmons - 3rd year starting
Bonifas - has been here, what, 2-3 years?
Neal - is new but he's not a true freshman

Don't act like we had a bunch of 18 year old kids. We had men over the age of 21 playing other men over the age of 21 and got our crap pushed in.

Or that we are the only team that has a lot of underclassmen playing. Because its not like we're the only young team in America.

We are in year freaking 7. We just brought in a new S&C, and was raved about how much weight and strength and everyone gained.

Yes, Iowa State is never going to win a national title in football.
Yes, Iowa State is never going to perennially win the Big 12.
Yes, Iowa State is never going to finish top 25 in recruiting.
Yes, Iowa State is never going to win 8+ games regularly.
Yes, Iowa State is going to be athletically at a disadvantage against certain teams like Texas, OU, etc.

NONE of that pertains to Ohio. NONE of that pertains to Northern Iowa.

I completely support having realistic expectations at Iowa State. But I am so tired of the apologists and excuses after losing to Iowa (again) in a game where we self destructed and looked like crap on offense (again) and struggling to push around an FCS team and getting pushed around by a MAC team.

How exactly is it unrealistic to expect an offensive line to not look like dog crap with an offense that looks like it can run effectively more than 6-8 plays? This is a team that was leading the nation in turnovers and we just lost the turnover battle.

There is no spin for this. No justifying it. It was ugly. It was embarassing. It was that simple. And rather than having a coach who comes out and says it's unacceptable and its on him and the coaches he talks about how they're a hair off. I am as close as I've ever been to apathy with Iowa State football and I was a fan during Walden and the end of Criner.

Not entirely sure. One, you could arguably promote Heacock. I think that would have some support. Also, if someone like Golesh, depending on how South Florida's season goes, was the choice, there is a chance that Heacock would stay because they have a relationship as well.

So while yes, you may be correct, it's not a 100% done deal. If he got promoted, he obviously stays. If a coach comes in like Golesh who he had a relationship with , he might not .

Our offensive line is terrible except for pass pro, you'll get no argument from me there. We also are missing 2 starting offensive linemen. And when you have a terrible offensive line in the first place, that's a death knell.

But it doesn't have to be, that's my issue. CMC is so freaking stubborn that becomes the death nail.

If we would play to what strengths we have - a QB who gets rid of the ball quick, a decent stable of backs , a effecient quick game with occasional deep shot -

we'd be better on offense. Instead we continually try to ram it straight ahead over and over and over again.

Yes, the OL is not great. But we do have some strengths on offense. Bitter is probably not an NFL receiver, but he's reliable. Our TE room is decent. Higgins / Noel are decent Big 12 receivers. All world? Nope. But good enough.

But we don't play to them. Instead we continually play to our weakness which is our OL's inability to generate push.

And that stubbornness is costing us games. Which is frustrating to watch. And I don't get it. CMC is an incredibly smart man surrounded by other very smart men but this stubborness is killing our momentum as a program and that hurts.

Its not about me, yeah, I'm mad, but who gives a crap? no one but me. We have a window, and had a bigger window to do things at Iowa State that have never been done and no one ever thought we'd do. And the more he's stubborn and refuses to change - the more that window closes, IMO. And that's what hurts. I've seen enough ugly losses in 30+ years as an Iowa State fan and seen enough non bowl game seasons. I can deal with losses just fine.

Its the fact we're losing in part because our head coach refuses to change and refuses to acknowledge what's happening. That's the frustating part and why I'm mad.

Nah, thanks. There's been about 1-2 two people in my life who ever got to tell me what to do or think and you ain't one of pal. So pass. And maybe try handling criticism or a different opinion once or twice in your life before telling people to get lost. So you can take your arrogant attitude of thinking you can tell other people how to be a fan and get lost and hit the bricks yourself.

Try again kettle. Never once I've ever ever told someone to leave, support another team or anything. Had many a disagreement? Sure. Not agreed on stuff. Absolutely. Wondered how and why they thought that ? Sure, of course.

But ever tell someone they should leave or support a different team? Nope. But hey, nice try.
