were we watching the same game? His best receiver last night inarguably was Deebo.
Yes for sure it was Deebo. I’m saying arguably that Bell was one of the best weapons last night. A fellow 7th rounder. Made a big TD and caught that tip drill ball to save a drive.

I was trying to poke a hole in idea that Brock is just existing out there with all these All-Pro guys.

Aiyuk didn't play.

And Trent Williams actually had an off night.

Purdy was still Purdy, against a playoff team from last year.

The Niners are a very entertaining team to watch play football.

Yeah in the first quarter the "Purdy is only good because of weapons" people might have been getting excited because it looked like the offense was a little limited compared to usual.

Then they just slowly built up and got it rolling like usual, almost like there's this idea that it might take a little time for any team to adapt to losing a key starter.

I will say it must be really frustrating to have to try to stop big plays from CMC and Deebo simultaneously, to me that's the truly unique thing you almost see. I agree with the announcers that it's insane how they just randomly switch positions from RB to WR and there's really no big drop off between them wherever they line up and they can kill you from anywhere.

That is the one guy for the list that may have an argument. Lawrence is for sure more talented, but I not sure he has played better. Lawrence a much bigger burden with Jacksonville. He also was the number one overall pick in his class. It is interesting to wonder if Lawrence would have the same record as Brock if he was a 49er.

Purdy is fantastic but anyone in their right mind takes Lawrence over Purdy. I would take purdy over everyone else on that list though.

The upside with Lawrence is much much greater. He has chance to be elite if he continues to develop.

Lawrence, Bryce Young, etc all have better/higher pure football physical traits, some by far. Some also read the field really well and/or are continuing to develop in that area.

I'm a huge Brock homer, but you have to realize a not insignificant portion of his success is because of the system. But that isn't meant to take anything away from him as that's part of the magic to building a great team - finding the right players for the right positions for the right play calling. It's why TJ has been successful at Iowa State - he can take a guy like Brockington, put him in a different system, and make him thrive.

I don't think many people would argue that Purdy would be doing as well as he is if you put him on the Jags, Bears, or Tampa Bay rosters.

But as long as the system he's in is built around managing the game, reading the defenses, taking what you can get, not turning the ball over, and making the occasional long throws... he's going to look pretty damn good - because he is at those exact things.

1.) With Cousins price tag they couldn’t afford half of the excellent cast around Purdy. I realize this is the last year of Cousins’ deal, but if you trade for him what do you do at QB next year? Cause you can’t resign him and keep all these other players.
I don't think Cousins will be in the league long as a starter because he seems to be unable to avoid a rush and takes a pounding.

They're far more athletic than Montana, Brady and Warner too and generally stronger arms. They're drastically faster than Marino. Drew Brees can't see over the line. It goes on and on.

Warner had this done to him more than anybody and look what happened when he played for a not-so-great Arizona team in his late 30s when he was not very mobile at all, his arm and mental game nearly got them a superbowl win.

I think I read that SF only had two starters on the OL last night compared to week 1. The Giants had a great gameplan. We saw it in college, you have to get Purdy backpedaling and throwing late. But once they found the screen game and especially Kittle in the flat, it was game over.

One thing that really sucks is Brock is paid peanuts for his position and has no ability to negotiate anything differently for a couple years. While the 49ers get to use that money on other positions, it's so unfair that a douche like Watson can get $230 million guaranteed and suck ass while Brock plays his ass off and is a standup citizen.

Purdy earns $900k a year. That's in the top .5% of everyone living in the United States, including California. He's doing fine. Keep playing like he has and he'll get his, just like all the others who perform well do. This is a silly thing to concern yourself with!

As much as I hate to give kudos to a Hawkeye I hope Brock buys Kittle a steak dinner for knocking down that pass that most likely would have been intercepted in the first Qtr last night. Very heads up play by Kittle.
It’s really hard not to love Kittle. Great player, great teammate and hilarious weirdo.

1 - He's making it in San Fran where 900K doesn't go far.

2 - I totally hate how salaries are in sports vs educators, etc.

3 - There is no guarantee that he'll stay healthy and because of the restrictions on rookie salaries, there is a lot less in the bank if something were to happen.

I'm not saying he's not doing well, but in relation to the area, the position, and his performance thus far he's grossly underpaid.

$900k goes way past plenty far in SanFran. Rent at $5k-$10k is easily affordable on $45k net each month.

Good to know. I knew it was really expensive, just not how much. You are absolutely right it's still a very comfortable amount that we'd all love to get.

He’s not starving, but keep in mind he’ll be taxed heavily. At that income, it looks like take home after federal, state, and local taxes is $487K.

$5K/month should be doable. $10K/month is a little steep for his income, but still very much doable for the average Joe. It looks like the average rent in SF is ~$3K/month which isn’t as bad as I expected. He’s not going to be driving any lambos with that take home though.
