Agree on 75. To think he is the best we have at such an important LT position. At this point they need to consider benching him. Anyone should be better. Play a soph or freshman. No loss. He is slow, out of position often and more porous than a sieve.
I believe Jake Remberg only has two games left on his BS suspension. I assume he start’s immediately in that spot.

I'd move Miller back to LT and start Remsburg at RT. That will shore things up a little.

There should be no more than 1 TE in the game at a time- run from 1 TE or open formations. Put 2 backs in the backfield to threaten either flank. Sama could be a Deebo Samuel type guy- get him the ball in space.

If we keep trying to run the same way going forward it will be the same. Only watching the game live it appeared that with heavy formations the defensive line was much more active than in wide sets. A lot more slanting and the def seemed to have definite keys that they identified. Our OL is a disappointment and the only way they can run is to be creative in scheme and run from 1 or 0 TE.

I don't disagree on most of your points (though I think it's extreme to say those points are enough that the players won in spite of the coaching), but the bolded stat is incorrect.

There were 24 pass completions at the end of the third. There were 34 pass attempts, for a passing rate of about 60%. For some context, that passing rate (59.65%, to be exact), would've been 9th highest in all of FBS last year (source).
Ah yes. That is a very good point. I stand corrected. It was not as egregious as I thought. Thank you

If you watch the games you’ll notice that muh of the pressure from our between the tackles-runs are coming from our tackles just letting defenders into the backfield. Simmons and Neal are probably 2 of the worst offensive linemen in college football today. Removing them from the field can only be positive.
Speaking of removed from the field, no Dmitri Stanley was so nice to see as he is allergic to first downs and Rocco’s passing game looked so much better when there’s guys that wanna fight for every yard.

Sanders I think gives you the most but realistically I think if we even had breece hall our run game would still be horrible. I’m still super bullish on Sama

One more point: Our players and coaches need to know when running out of bounds stops the clock and when it doesn't. Sanders could have picked up that first down while running out of bounds. That was at the 2:40 mark or so. The game clock would have started again once the ball was placed.

Offensive Positives
  • The running back pass to the flat HAS TO BE a part of what we do. If defenses stack the box we have to make them pay. The 20 yard running back pass to Sama was a thing of beauty.me is similar.

^^^ This. Best way to get the ball to our RBs in space. Hell, just watch SF play and steal some of the pass plays from Purdy to CMC.

The D took a huge step back today IMO. I don’t think that OSU is as good as anyone else we will face this season. Our passing game is good but the running game makes it tougher…Rocco reminds me of Purdy a little in the passing game but he hasn’t shown the ability to make tacklers miss and get that extra few yards on the ground…

Defense gave up two huge plays they normally don’t…granted one was an awful scheme (cannot have a LB on a WR with no safety help) and the other was poor tackling/angles. But the defense is fine. We cannot expect to give up 9-13 points each and every week, which is why it was very important the offense take the steps they did yesterday.

Are we sure that’s not on the coaches? It seemed to me it had been drilled in his head “Do not go out of bounds. Get them to use their timeouts”. I’m obviously speculating, but why else would he have done that?

The mindset going into that last drive should have been let’s get 2 first downs. Instead it looked to me the mindset was: get them to use their TOs.

It might not have been. I’m not privy to what’s being communicated. But that is what it looked like to me.
Sanders said in the locker room interview that he screwed up on that play.

I am very happy to see the offensive improvements. But this staff’s “playing not to lose” mentality is maddening.

-Squibb kick with 45 seconds in the first half after the kicker has been booming it out of the end zone
-Prevent defense to follow which of course gives up an easy three points
-Running the ball 75% of the time up two scores instead of trying to put the game away
-Telling your RB to get down in bounds with 2+ mins left when a first down may win the game might be the most conservative play I saw in 12 hours of watching football yesterday.

Again, very happy we won and saw huge offensive improvement but we gave the opposing team continued chances to stay in the game when, if we kept doing what got us to that point, we win by 2+ scores.

Problem with the QB run game is that Kohl isn’t ready for big time games and the QB run game definitely opens you up to injury. If Rocco goes down the season might be over

Rocco needs to perfect the "pump fake" that seems to work for Purdy every time!

I’m not usually this hard on the coaches, but I thought the players won today in spite of the coaching. We could/should have won that game by 2-3 touchdowns. It should never have come down to the last drive.

- At the end of the 3rd quarter we had 23 runs and 24 pass attempts. We were averaging 2.2 ypc at that point. We had 323 passing yards to 53 rushing yards at that point. To have that ratio of rushes to passes, with those results, with the game in the balance, is absolutely inexcusable

- I disagreed not going for it on 4th and inches late in the 4th up 14, but I understand why it was done. What’s inexcusable is to punt the ball with 20 seconds left on the play clock. Absolutely no reason to do that.

- Squib kicking it with 43 seconds left in the first half while OSU has 3 timeouts left. Bitched execution led to the kick going OB, but even if it hadn’t, that is way too much time when the opponent has 3 TOs to be squibbing. We gifted them 3 points.

- After OSU’s last TD, we absolutely have to play for a first down and even a couple. It doesn’t really matter if we make them use their TOs there. They’ll still get the ball back with 2 minutes which is plenty of time to score a TD. We needed to play that series to get first downs, not get them to use their TOs. We didn’t do that and they predictably ended up with plenty of time to match and score. Luckily the D held on 4th down.

Poor game management led to this being a 7 point win instead (and almost blew it) of a 14-21 point win.

Edit: Thank you to @MJ271 on the first bullet. That was actually 24 completions, not pass attempts. So not nearly as egregious as I thought.
Pretty easy to.pick a dialog to fit your desired narrative. How about this:

- if our linebacker doesn't get beat on a wheel route you eliminate a 70 yard play?
- if our OLB, DE, and CB do what is taught from 4th grade on (turn all running plays to the inside) u eliminate a 70 yard run?
- if our RB realizes that he doesn't have a first down and doesn't dive, then the ending is totally different.

The game is probably a 30ish to 15ish game.
