Yeah it certainly sucks that it happened but he waved his hand which is all he has to do. So unless someone can point me to a rule that shows it's a blown call I don't get the "controversy" over the call. It wasn't a bad spot or a judgement PI or something

I think he meant to return it, but technically it seems he committed a penalty.

It would really sting, but I don’t think it’s a true screw job.

He didn't wave though is the problem. I've seen alot of people wave goodbye in my life and they've never made a motion like that.

The closest thing I can compare it to is in basketball when the ref is counting off the 10 second violations with his arms and making a downward motion. That's not anywhere close to waving.

While I am glad I didn't waste a minute on the B1G Bore game - before the final interception when I turned to watch the Gophers go "Get the pig", I am enjoying the CF Recap. Post by Post. On Page 197 working my way to the end now after a couple of victory drinks for the Alabama win and the Iowa loss.

Wut? He was waving his arm. That's literally what you described. He doesn't have to wave goodbye to the other team

Watched the replay and it sure looked like 3 or 4 Gophers eased up until he spun out of the first tackle. DeJean was waiving like crazy. Heady play by him if he was trying to create confusion and try to get one over, he just got caught. Poor discipline by the Gophers to not finish out the play until the whistle, but blowing up the returner isn’t really an option.

Iowa was still in a good spot near midfield with the wind, plenty of time plus an timeout and a good kicker.

But you forget that Iowa was trying to win without an offense. Bold, but its worked pretty well this year.

2nd half yards:
University of Iowa - 2
KnappShack on the Couch - 0

Close. I had a chance and blew it.

He pointed with his right arm and is making a downward motion with his left, I've never seen anyone attempt to make a fair catch like that before. I guess it's the right call however ridiculous it might be, but his intent was clearly to get his own guy away from the ball.

He waves back and forth with his left arm multiple times

Having trouble landing on a game. Started with Michigan-MSU because I like rivalries, but think Michigan will run away with it. TCU-KSU not much of a game. Duke-FSU looks fun, but don't have much interest. Utah-USC?

You are misunderstanding the rule they enforced. It was not a fair catch signal. If anyone says that, you would be correct, it was not..

It was an “invalid fair catch signal”, which is when the referees determine an arm motion may be confused as a fair catch signal, which puts the coverage team at a disadvantage.

That is enforced the same as a fair catch.

That's what I'm on now but I realized I have to endure the USC band playing their Trojan version of Boomer Sooner every 5 seconds. Might have to mute it.

When Lute Olson was Iowa basketball coach, the Hoks lost when a Purdue (?) player was fouled on a last second shot and he sank two free throws. Hok fans thought otherwise, even though a Sports Illustrated photo showed that he was fouled. After the game, Jim Zabel found the refs address and gave it over the air several times (I think on TV, too). Needless to say, that official got a ton of death threats.
