To stay in the playoff race, you had to have a chance to begin with
I hate to say it, but they were in it. They were 6-1 and favored in every remaining game of the regular season. If they had taken care of business, I think the B1G title game would have been a win and your in situation for them regardless of their soft schedule. A 12-1 B1G champ coming off a win over UM or OSU isn't getting left out. An early season loss on the road to a top 10 team is a quality loss.

Now they had no prayer to beat UM or OSU. But they could have controlled their own destiny to that point.

Iowa was never in the playoff race. Posts like this from Hawk fans just crack me up. Your team shouldn’t sniff the top 25 given their performance at Penn St and their pathetic schedule.
How about this? Is it time we start talking about Penn State being OVERRATED? They got housed against OSU and are struggling against Indiana. And Penn State CRUSHED Iowa.

Maybe he thinks it’s 12 teams and auto bids like it will be next year? Iowa could have won the rest of their games and b10ccg by 40 after the minn loss and they’d still be out of 4 team playoff,
It was a joke I think most knew that

It will be interesting to see what happens with Mich/OSU/Penn State this year. It’s possible all 3 could finish with one loss, but doubt all 3 get in.

Plus they could have to contend with 4 undefeateds in other conferences: Georgia, FSU, Oklahoma, Washington.

I think most of those undefeateds will take a loss. UW has a tough schedule to finish out, seems like they will drop at least one. UGA hasn't been dominant either, so I expect th to stumble once as well. OU is struggling at KU today. FSU seems like the safest bet to me. Schedule seems favorable and the ACC just looks soft.

I hope Bama loses one more to officially end their hopes but I could see them getting a game vs uga in SEC championship to go to playoffs

Fake ID playoff contention is not playoff contention. As you point out, they would have gotten absolutely crushed in the B1G chumpionship. No chance is no chance.

You never know what could happen. Iowa has had those kinds of upsets before.

That being said, I kind of expected them to drop one of these big 10 West games anyway. You can't keep playing with fire having no offense and being close games and not expect to have something happen

It’s almost impossible for those teams to finish with 1 loss, especially since PSU doesn’t have the talent to beat Michigan. The winner of the UM/OSU game will have one loss and will have to hope that 2 of those 4 take a loss otherwise their chance is zero.

They would still need the undefeateds to lose they aren’t getting in with how they have played this year unless they are going against other one loss teams.

I doubt to aeros point that 4 teams end up undefeated especially with this scenario implying uga loss. You know SEC is getting benefits of doubt if losses are equal
