True, but we have only played OU so far, I was just talking up till now, without a doubt the schedule gets tougher down the road.
Really if you compare our schedules to EIU right now, I would say they are both about equal, they play @ Penn St. and @ Wisconsin, and have beaten nobody in the conference worth a damn, the difference between the two is we still have UT, KU, KSU and BYU left, and they have NW, Neb, Rutgers and Illinois. Our best win so far is OSU, while EIU's is Wisconsin on the road.

WI is decent but doesn't really do anything particularly well.

UT and OU are both good, KSU is good, KU is pretty good.

That doesn't leave the two schedules equal.

The B12 is not good but it's about on par with other conferences outside the Pac 12 (quite the twist on their way to being dissolved).

Wisconsin sucks! Have you seen who they have beat? Penn St was 38-0.

If you go back and reread what I said, I was saying as of today. The ISU schedule will get a lot harder, while EIU's schedule will get easier, but so far its about equal.

Not sure why you keep making this dumb argument. If you want to say the toughest part of our schedule is coming up, I can agree with that.

But you called our schedule a B1G West schedule. So wrong. As I pointed out earlier, we will play all four of the top teams in the Big 12. Iowa or Nebraska will not.

Plus, of the four newbies, it appears 3 of them are Purdue, MSU, Illinois, Rutgers, Northwestern kinda bad. And we only got to play one of them (Cincy), and it was on the road.

One of the other newbies (BYU) is decent and we also have to play them on the road.

Calling our schedule a B1G West schedule is dumb.

Is reading that hard for some people? I said we have played a B10 West type of schedule so far, and we have outside of OU and maybe OSU. We caught OSU when they were still messing around with their QB's, Baylor is bad, Cinn has not won a conference game, and the only two games TCU has won in conference is Houston and BYU.

Our schedule from here on out is the most difficult of any of the teams with one or two losses.

Smarter than Heacock? Never stated as much.

But I do challenge those who immediately dismiss to find fault with what was said. Our "stats" are good but have come (mostly) against weak teams/offenses. The LB core is terrible and a lot of our defensive issues start with their inability to fill gaps, make tackles, and or drop into coverage. We also tend to get burned more, and consistently, when we only rush 3 defenders. Suggesting we try to get more aggressive to: A) generate pressure B) Mitigate the LB weakness is hardly outlandish. Additionally suggesting that's better accomplished by using a lineman, as the LBs are terrible, is also an easily defensible position.

Ultimately our defensive success is almost solely predicated on the talent in the secondary and the improved ability to create TOs/interceptions. Amazingly we have done this with (often) very little in the way of pressure. This is a combo of that talent and the quality of our opponents. Cooper is also crazy at creating and converting those opportunities. He could have had two today, the first was a tough play while the 2nd he should have caught, a rare miss for him.

Many on here may be in denial but our defense will struggle against ANY competent QB. Lucky for us this is one of the worst QB groups the Big 12 has fielded. The one good QB we did face? He (Gabriel) torched us and exposed our lack of pass rush and inability of our backers to cover talent in space. Bean/Daniel will give us issues, KSU will give us issues, and Texas will if Ewers is able to start. We might get lucky and have him out in that game. Regardless I expect the stats, due to quality of the lines and QBs, to drop off immensely these last 4 weeks.

But hey, keep spouting the inaccurate hyperboles.
LB's are terrible? Dude Will McClaughlin would start on any team in the league not named OU. Willich is young and improving, Kooper Ebel is going to be very good and Sadowski is improving (only a freshman).

Also i'm not going to bag on a defense not getting an INT, when they have already forced a ton of INT's this season. You've got to be comfortable with the fact at this point that under a Jon Heacock D, the other team's offense will move the ball between the 20's, that's just how it goes. Also look at the D statistics the last three seasons. He's a top 5 D coordinator in the COUNTRY.

To have those misses, plus a couple missed opportunities defensively, and still win by 12 on the road against a Big 12 team is still something worth appreciating. Yes, I know Baylor is not a good football team, but I think they're more like your run-of-the mill non-bowl team than they are like Kansas in the 2010s.
In other words, like us until recently?

That's a 3rd grade burn right there. I expect better from this board.
You have fairly advanced English skills for a 3rd grader. I'll give you that. Try to work on your brevity as you go through grade school.

Edit: I'm sorry, you are just a little more enthusiastic than me. Still Cyclones!

What a fantastic win. Just complete dominance start to finish for the most part.

It is becoming more and more difficult by the week to believe that this is the same group of players and coaches that we had to endure the first 3 weeks of the season. Hell of a job by Campbell and his staff. At what point does the conversation of hot seat begin to swing back to will he be lured away by a bigger fish?

Ultimately, 2 of Baylor's TD's were from a short field from a TO, and a busted coverage (still a good play call to their credit)

Sucked being on the wrong end of those, and need to clean those up, but our defense held them when they needed to. Probably could've put the game away earlier if Pendergrass hadn't been such a pest.
Busted coverage, I say a very well done pick play. Our recievers need to study how to do it right.

Agree. These are our guys, they are young, and are improving, and are going to continue to improve.

And didn't Verdon get an INT?

Below are the true freshmen who played at Baylor yesterday (taken from another thread). This number, which I'm guessing is higher than 90% of all the other P5 teams in the country, amazes me.

On one hand I think it's great because we always have fresh players on the field and we're developing our young talent very quickly. On the other hand, I go crazy when I watch a walkon freshman blow his coverage and give up a wide open touchdown in the middle of an enormously important Big 12 game. I screamed out loud why is this guy playing in such a crucial situation?

I realize Campbell and his staff know more about football than I ever will, so I'm not complaining. I just think it's pretty unusual.

@Baylor

Nope, it wasn't perfect video game like execution the whole game so us fans need to struggle emotionally with the win.

Never get tired of seeing these! Great memories for this team! And fans!
I highly encourage everyone to go to Cyclone road games.

I was at the game in Waco. Though the game was far from perfect, it was deeply satisfying to assemble with the Cardinal-clad throng in the southeast corner of the stadium to watch the final kneel downs and cheer for the team exiting the field.

Also, an unexpected benefit of going to Cyclone road games is that it is easy to talk with the players’ parents. If you want to better under stand the Cyclones’ “5 star culture”, invest some time talking with the parents. You will come away with a better understanding the Cyclones’ grit, tenacity, grace under fire and how they persevered through some bad plays and weather to win a conference road game.

I encourage you to get to know some players’ parents. It will be a very uplifting and encouraging experience as well as a boon to your Cyclone fandom.
