My big question is: how did this win differ from our season opener against IUPUI last season? At the time, many including myself were over the moon about how we were able to finally just put away a non-conference opponent, even if they rank amongst the lowest of the low.

Green Bay is bad (#306) but not close to one of the worst teams in the country. We have a couple teams on the schedule that will be worse including Lindenwood on Thursday.

Their leading scorer last night, Noah Reynolds, was committed to Wisconsin before flipping because his brother got a job on GB's staff. He averaged 15 a game in the Mountain West last year. He could start on some average to bad P5 teams. There will be a lot of low majors with a similar roster but won't have a guy like that.
I agree that I don't think they will be one of the worst this season. But the last couple of years they have been 350+ terrible. Don't know much about the Horizon, but would assume they could be a middle of the pack type of team there with the talent we saw last night.

Eye test. More ball handlers. More length. Younger players still feeling out the game and growing into themselves . Much higher ceiling.

Still a lot to learn and a lot to see before anybody can fully know what we will be offensively by year end. Teams will scout us and take things away. But this team seems more equipped to be able to adjust due to athletic ability alone. Having more guards that can handle the ball and create their own shot does soooooo much more for a team.

There are some pretty good 3A teams as well. Come on..........what do you think?

Ever heard of pointing out the absurd by being absurd?
I've always been horrible at pointing out sarcasm on here lol my apologies.

I doubt Tre gets enough minutes to lead the league in rebounding per game. But if he can do it on per minute level I think we could challenge to win the conference.

It’s a big deal to have people who can actually dribble besides Lipsey.

I'm guessing the overall idea is, we add players who are more productive offensively, so naturally won't be as focused/gifted as defenders. As if a player can't do both well.
There is some truth to that, but another issue is maintaining energy on both sides of the floor.

Fred's teams took time off on defense to rest. TJ's teams have taken time off on offense to rest.

This team might be deep enough they don't have to do that?? Scary if so.

Our ball handling was clearly a level above last season. Holmes and Kalscheur were not strong ball handlers. Gilbert is a big upgrade as the other primary ball handler with Lipsey.

I was really impressed with our movement off the ball. Momcilovic has a lot of great habits. The ball never sticks, and he's always relocating.

Yeah compare Freshman Tamin, Gabe, Jaren and Grill to Sophomore Tamin, Gilbert, Jones and Pav and that is a massive upgrade in ball handling ability. Which should be a huge boost this year

I'd say C Jones and Pav are as well. That just wasn't a strength of those guys.

Good question. Both wins were similar on the floor. This year's team is younger, so you would expect a lesser performance for a first game. This year's team also has more depth, which is good, but it also means more moving parts and things to figure out for a first game. No one hit 30 minutes in the game last night.

It's a very different kind of team so the two aren't really comparable imo.

They'll have some tough days and nights but I like their chances better if the opponent is hitting even against good defense.

Here's my quick breakdown - with the caveat that UWGB could be one of the worst teams we've played in years and we really shouldn't draw too much from this game.

Lipsey: Really good start. Just seeing the first 2 threes go down will be huge for his confidence and his shot looked really good. He was in complete control the entire game and dictated the pace and flow. Looked like he picked up right where he left off. The team had only 4 turnovers, Tamin had just the one silly cross-court pass.

Gilbert: Very much exceeded all of my expectations. He's a lot thicker than I expected, he was pretty skinny his first two years, but is big enough to bully into the lane and get shots off. Looked to me to be a real game-changer which his ability to get into the lane and score or distribute. Defense looked good and he looked really engaged and intense (need to keep that up). I expect he's going to be the "go-to" guy as the season goes on to get a bucket when we need one

Milan: Great start - but basically what I expected. 0-2 from inside the arc isn't showing his entire game, I expect to see him more comfortable in the paint going forward, he's a crafty scorer there. His defense looked good enough for now, he's clearly put in work on that end.

Tre King: Wasn't as big of a focus of the offense as I expected, in terms of running plays through him - which is mainly due to the emergence of Gilbert. He's in a "dirty work" role where he takes what's there, lobs, drop offs, put backs, etc. Love the line about TJ challenging him to lead the BigXII in rebounding. That would be huge for the team.

Ward: Love to see Hasan get the start and play so well. He's not going to score much, but he was really active and mostly in good positioning.

Curtis Jones: I thought he was really smooth and solid - he looked like a 5th year senior out there. The outside shot will fall and he's going to be a very key player off the bench, basically making the guard position a 3-headed monster with Lipsey and Gilbert.

Big Rob: He was who he is. He finished well in the lane and missed his FTs.

Watson: Looked bigger and more comfortable, but he'll need the corner 3 to fall if he wants a boost in playing time.

Omaha: Needs some PT to get the game to slow down - he looked like he was "chasing the play" a bit on both ends (leading to the fouls). He shot looked good, those will fall, and he made one good hustle play toward the end - but he needs to bring that energy every minute on the floor. He'll be fine.

Jackson Pav: Looked really good offensively, but still has some work on the defensive end. As I said upthread, hopefully he forces his way into a couple minutes a game against better competition.

Fish: Love his energy, but he's probably 2 years out.

TL;DR
