I know there may be recency bias in this claim, but I think this might be the worst loss in the TJ era. Hopefully it’s a motivational loss.

The most concerning thing is going into the season we thought (and it was advertised) that a lot of the offense would be at the FT line. Obviously that doesn’t work if we continue to shoot FT at this rate.

I do think we'll begin the mesh a little better, but some stuff is so frustrating. Nobody seems capable of hitting a free throw. For one. And 3-point shooting .... also inconsistent.

Occasionally both of those will coincide and ISU will crush a couple of opponents.

Defense is fine, mostly, with some exceptions. One, can't seem to secure rebounds/loose balls. Also, getting exploited on 3-point shooting due to trapping-D. A team like Iowa might kill us on that.

Pet Peeve: Broadcasters saying that Iowa State fans made the trip from Ames, Iowa. Why do they think all Iowa State fans live in Ames?
Me too, but they say that about every team. Like every fan lives in the town that the school is in. ha!

Kenpom predicted 70-69 aTm. Wild

Knew it would be tight. That I can deal with. But tonight's loss wouldn't be as "bad" if it didn't involve us being up 21 points. That fact alone calls into question a LOT of things about this team. It's early, but wow was it hard to watch that lead just keep fading away. Careless passes, missed free throws, and NUMEROUS clanked threes (open threes that our opponents make) causes one to pull your hair out.

Jones and Gilbert 12 turnovers between them.
34 3's taken on 61 shots too many

18-27 from stripe for 67%

ISU outscored A&M from the line.

A &M realized it was okay to take 2 point shots and not die by the 3 ball. It's what got them back in it.

ISU needs that mid range game that guys like Gabe could provide at key moments

I sure hope he makes some changes after this showing and hopefully has them practicing free throws.
You aren't going to get markedly better shooting in-season. You've got to use every minute on game plan and execution stuff. Guys need to do that **** on their own time.

If I was scouting Iowa State I’d tell my team to reach, go for steals, and play physical. Even if this team goes to the line they’re going to end up missing 1/3 to 1/2 of the shots anyway

What has HE done though? What are the offensive strengths you see from him? Is he able to guard in space? Cover the corners?
Once again, does it matter? If we’re going to lose anyway I’d rather lose watching a McDonald’s All American play like crap than watching Curtis Jones play like crap. That’s just me though
