It was never fair to Gabe. Jones has been commended for his defense though and as it stands the whole team shooting 25% from three and 35% FGs isn't just a Jones thing.
If you want to break it down by just the stats like that, I don’t think it’s fair to the rest o the team…

Once again, does it matter? If we’re going to lose anyway I’d rather lose watching a McDonald’s All American play like crap than watching Curtis Jones play like crap. That’s just me though
The problem is we need a McDonald’s AA to start making an impact. With him being unable to do anything, it hurts us. It’s head scratching that our highest rated recruit in history is currently our 9th-10th best player at the moment. Him being unable to improve and adjust could be the big difference between us being a tournament team or not.

Knew it would be tight. That I can deal with. But tonight's loss wouldn't be as "bad" if it didn't involve us being up 21 points
Last year at Oklahoma we had a 25-7 lead and within 6 minutes it was tied at 25. Just because wexplay good defense doesn't mean they can hold a big lead all game.

I still think it was BS they talked about their 2 starters all game being out, but no mention of 1 of ours.

We got a lot of things to figure out. I would start with watching all the film followed up with a shoot around.

The thing that is being inexcusable to me is the fact that we suck from the line. and its a lot of our guards. can't happen.
Their 2 starters averaged like 27pts and 10+ rbs…

Our 1 starter is sorta tall and athletic, but barely shows up in the box score.

Curtis has not performed like a D1 player. Billew has not looked ANYTHING like a D1 player yet. There is a difference. And No, we don't want to see Billew not doing anything vs. bad play from others. I have seen 4 times that Billew has done something good thus far this season, all the other players have done that within one game. Give it a break and let him work his way in during the 4 games before conference please.

This is just not a very good team right now. It doesn't mean they can't improve as the season goes on, but right now they stink. To me, so far it is a carbon copy of last year. Lipsey still can't shoot to save his life, and forces a lot of bad passes. Gilbert reminds me of Holmes last year. Holmes was a better shooter, Gilbert is better at getting to the rim. We don't have Osunnyi back there to protect the rim and rebound, so our interior defense is worse.

Same dreadful shooting. Same pathetic FT percentage, around 65%. Terrible in game decisions, probably going to average over 15 turnovers a game.

New players, same result. What is the same? The coaching.

I know there may be recency bias in this claim, but I think this might be the worst loss in the TJ era. Hopefully it’s a motivational loss.

The most concerning thing is going into the season we thought (and it was advertised) that a lot of the offense would be at the FT line. Obviously that doesn’t work if we continue to shoot FT at this rate.
I agree, it’s a bad loss with what A&M had missing combined with blowing a massive lead.

How many blown double digit leads is that now for TJ? Really bad in game coaching that’s becoming a trend
It has nothing to do with coaching, the reason teams erase big deficits is because we go 10 minutes without scoring on offense. All of a sudden a stretch that should be 16-10 where they starting chipping away turns into a 16-2 type run for the other team.

Jones and Gilbert 12 turnovers between them.
34 3's taken on 61 shots too many

18-27 from stripe for 67%

ISU outscored A&M from the line.

A &M realized it was okay to take 2 point shots and not die by the 3 ball. It's what got them back in it.

ISU needs that mid range game that guys like Gabe could provide at key moments
Totally agree. How many times do we have an open 10-12 foot shot and then decide to drive in hard against 2-3 people. It's not always about highlight drives.

He isn’t getting drafted in 2024. I get the potential, but nobody is going to draft a guy that averages 5-7 minutes a game and makes zero impact while in the game.

Most of our fans don't even realize how many one and done guys are going through G league/OT Elite and how many truly great international players are getting drafted who have already played at a level higher than the NCAA. Any more we are talking about 10-15 NCAA basketball players a year getting a guaranteed contract on draft night, not the 25-30 it used to be.

There was a brief period where NBA teams threw draft picks away on unproven high school kids hoping to get the next KG or Kobe. That era is long gone. They have a so many proven players to pick from now without drafting players who haven't dominated for at least a year at a level higher than hs.

Mark me down as currently unconcerned. We still have more offensive talent than last two years (combined?) and confident stops will come.

There’s a line shift of faces and what I see is a still emerging identity/trust and confidence in roles.

Will be good to get back and work on things after being punched in the mouth.

Both two losses team showed a sense of urgency late but it was too little/late. May have started buying their own hype playing cupcakes.

TJ & Green will get their attention. Mark the tape.

I really think Omaha should have stayed at a prep school his senior year. Really would have benefited him.
