Not exactly sure.
Respectfully I disagree. I think they all will have a decent shot. May not be drafted necessarily, but to say the others wont ever play a down is an aggressive take
Ant is a good example. Not a lot of people thought he would be where he is as a starting safety in the NFL. He busted his tail, moved positions, came back for another year. Got himself drafted in the last round. Fought just to make the practice squad but instead made the team. Then had a couple injuries happen in front of him and bam, he's a starting safety. Gotta love the determination. Hard work does pay off at times, and some luck also.

Oh yeah I definitely agree. But was Nwankpa paid that based on the fact he was expected to be the best safety in the nation (or top 5 at least), and not actual production?

Either way, I guess we’ll find out in the next two weeks who’s going and who’s staying
I wouldn't be surprised to learn 600k is near the minimum required to sign a 5-star recruit.

I think it’s best to assume we have very little in NIL money.

Our key in keeping players is culture and the ability to get players a portion of what they can get elsewhere.
Agreed. CMC isn’t perfect but I am so thankful he is a culture first guy. Can’t argue with his continuity in key assistants and the glowing reviews from his players.

Given our NIL reality, a poor culture and morally rudderless coach would be devastating in player attraction and retention. We’d be screwed if Gene Chizik was our coach right now.

At least 30 states have legalized NIL deals for high schoolers. The floor continues to rise on expectations for baseline $.

In a pure sense, maybe this opens the door for more traditional NIL deals… local kid gets $5000 to be in a car dealership commercial. Awesome.

But the flip side is that it invites all types of influence and coercion in playing time, college selection, crossing over districts to play for x school… you know, stuff that has always happened but is wide open now.

People seem to just look at the money and don't even take into account the risk involved in switching into another team's scheme and into another set of circumstances.

There's a good chance that the place that helped make someone a star is putting them in situations where they can succeed, including having the right pieces around them (including coaches).

You also may have a group of players that came in as freshmen and now one of them gets bumped out of their spot for this new guy with a bag of cash. They want to win, but the chemistry may be off since they are ticked that their buddy is now the back up running back and not the starter his senior year.

I didn't say Tech does. Just that staying at Iowa State based on ability to put DB in the NFL has got some holes. Ellis Hobbs played for Dan McCarney lol. Leonard Johnson was done at Iowa State halfway through the Rhoads era and was recruited by Chizik.

Tampa will play in the NFL.

This is like the Price is Right

Actual Retail price $56782, we'll see you in the showcase showdown
I’m waiting until about April when some of these athletes who got 100k in NIL and went out and spent it all on a car and clothes to get told they owe like 25k in taxes now. Then they will be looking to transfer again to pay their taxes.

Where I live a HS player did exactly that.

Imagine the day a top recruit demands X playing time for a commitment.

It seems to me that the deeper these "unaffiliated" NIL groups get into it, the more legal hairballs there will be, particularly if there are any stipulations to it. Makes it really hard to not call them employees when a school's NIL group makes agreements that the school then adheres to.

Until the people breaking the rules are actually penalized (Just look no farther than what Kansas/adidas/Self...Michigan, Texas...so many other bluebloods have done over the years to gain more advantage...looking at you SEC too), most schools will never compete for pay for play...i.e....NIL. They may be offering x amount of money that is now above board....wink wink, but who knows how much money in the bag that is never going to be on record. So if they decide to make everything even for all D1 as I see some mention and have read elsewhere, until the cheaters are actually punished harshly, they'll just go back to handing more monies off through bagmen... Until there is a market correction and actual punishment, this is going to be the wild wild west forever. Maybe the donors at these big schools will see the return isn't there at some point...who knows.
