I think Michigan is in even with a loss on Saturday. They’ll still have wins over OSU and Penn State.

Now a loss could bump them down to #4 and a potential matchup with Georgia in the semis. They’ll want avoid that at all costs
I think they'd need help at that point. Florida state loss probably. Michigan will need to play its worst game since covid to be facing that reality though

Less than zero percent chance if they lose to Iowa.

Because

Winner of Oregon / Washington = In
Winner of Bama / Georgia = In

Now, lets say, Bama beats Georgia. There is no way in heck Georgia doesn't make it. There's 3.
Michigan's beyond cream puffery schedule is not going to help them.

The ONLY way Michigan gets in with a loss would be

1) Bama loses
2) Texas loses
3) Florida State loses

So, I guess, technically, that's not a ZERO percent chance. But there is no way they get in on their own. They would need both FSU and Texas to lose chaos to make it in with a loss to a crappy Iowa team because an undefeated Florida State, even without Travis who would have beat LSU in non conference, won at Clemson and then takes down Louisville, they are 100% going to make it.

So in theory - and if Texas then wins

13-0 Florida State
12-1 Oregon / 13-0 Washington
13-0 Georgia
12-1 Texas

OR

12-1 Alabama
12-1 Georgia
12-1 Oregon / 13-0 Washington
12-1 Texas or 13-0 Florida State

AND

12-1 Texas
13-0 Georgia
13-0 Florida State
13-0 Washington

There are simply way too many chances and other teams with as strong or stronger resumes

Who had the easiest schedule in the big 12. Record does not tell the quality of WV. They are two wins higher minimum than they should be. I wouldn’t use them to help your point.
PSU is still a very good team. If you want to nitpick every little thing then I shudder to think of how you view the Big12 let alone the new Big12.

Penn State is a very average team.

Their offense is very MEH.
Their defense is very good.

They are not a GOOD team. They are an above average team.

They benefit from having the name Penn State. And being the 3rd best team in the Big 10. Because somehow that matters.

Isn't nitpicking every little thing, exactly what the playoff committee is supposed to do, though?

Is Penn state being considered for the playoff? Nah. They count as a great win for Michigan and OSU though.
Penn State's status as a "great win" is being considered, though, and so the nitpicking comes into play when they're trying to determine how "great" it actually was.

Regarding Penn State -

Are they beating Georgia - no
Texas - No
Oregon - No
Michigan - no
Ohio State - no
Alabama -no
Washington - maybe, but probably not
Healthy Florida State? - I don't think so
Oklahoma - maybe?
LSU - maybe?
Missouri- IDK. Maybe?

Like... they're not that good. Are they bad? No. But they're not this amazing quality of a win. They are Kansas State. Only Kansas State rises up and beats the Texas and Oklahoma's of the world occasionally.

Not exactly sure.

Tell me their good wins. I mentioned Iowa. I don’t see any other good wins. You want to use WV which managed to play 7 of their 9 conference games against the 7 worst teams in the conference. They are indeed the definition of the tallest midget in the big 12.

The big 12 has a hard split between the top half and bottom half. The big 12 is also down some this year, I admit that. Going forward, I can’t say since I don’t know what the PAC schools will bring.

They can beat other good teams, they can’t beat great teams like Michigan and OSU.
I don't hate the Big 10 - but they don't play any other good teams this year.

Delaware - Huh?
Michigan State - no
Indiana - LOL
West Virginia - no
Massachusetts- Seriously?
Northwestern - no
Iowa - no
Rutgers - no
Maryland- not really
Illinois - no

They got beat at home by a team that basically said F**K you, I ain't throwing the ball ever. Who lost their HC like the day before.

If you're best win is at home against an Iowa team that looks at offense like I look at synthetic beef - or a broiled egg plant -

then you have zero claim to be a good team.

They'd beat LSU pretty handily. LSU would still score on PSU's defense because that offense is really, really good. The flip side is LSU's defense is horrific and PSU would score over 40 on them.

I think they'd also beat OU. Not sure they'd beat Missouri. They'd lose to any of the top 7

LOL. Penn State scored 33 points on Indiana. Whose defense is worse, or at best, less talented, than LSU's. LSU's problem is the secondary. They are decent up front.

Penn State's problem is receivers and passing game and is not great up front. So it'd be a matchup of which units suck worse which is hardly a recipe for scoring 40 points. Because even if LSU's secondary is a F, Penn States receiving corps and passing game is a D- to a D.

Yep I agree they only have the Iowa win in their record. They are a victim of the big ten being down this year.

Texas has a single ranked win in its first game of the season against bama. Great win, but only one. They lost to an extremely mediocre OU team who struggled to beat UCF and lost to an unranked Kansas and an OKST team that got its breaks beat off by South Alabama and UCF! That’s the team texas is playing in the championship a team that got crushed by South Alabama.

So again penn state is a good team, I would happily put them up against anyone anyone else outside the top 8 teams.
