This is the reason ^I don't think people are upset with the bowl, just don't like the idea of playing a team in their home stadium for a bowl game again.
I agree....we had probably 25k down there last time....I think we'll be lucky if we get 15kI would be shocked if Iowa State gets more than 60% of the turnout last time. 2017 was our first bowl game in what felt like forever. Don’t think the excitement is there this time around.
100% is bold.......they both suck as destinations......I was really hoping they would stick us in Fort Worth or Dallas for a bowl or PhoenixShreveport is a dump. Not excited about Memphis but its 100% a better destination than Shreveport.
I'm sure some Memphis fans are excited but if I'm a Memphis fan, I would want to go somewhere else than my home stadium for a bowl gameI would be lying if I said this draw wasn't disappointing. I don't have an issue with the Liberty Bowl and I think most fans would have signed up for that result going into this season. The issue is playing Memphis...again...in their own damn home stadium. I was there in 2017 and the atmosphere was super unique and amazing, but doing it again isn't nearly as fun. I would have loved to get any SEC team in this draw instead.
Feels like ISU got screwed over by a few things. Mizzou/Ole Miss both getting into a NY6 and OU relegated to the Alamo bowl knocked the SEC up a couple selections and the Big 12 down one. Plus I weirdly think ISU-Memphis having such a good showing in 2017 made this matchup more exciting for the bowl reps, when in reality I think both fan bases are disappointed.
Oh well, hope those who go have a blast and we get that 8th win (haven't had a lot of those in ISU history).
Depends what you are looking for. I went to both. There is more to do in Memphis and it's closer. Much better option IMO. I went to Orlando, and while I thought it was better than Memphis when you factor in the cost difference it's not THAT much better. I wouldn't have gone back to Orlando. No way am I going to Phoenix day after Christmas. After San Antonio and Houston give me Memphis I guess of the options that were available.100% is bold.......they both suck as destinations......I was really hoping they would stick us in Fort Worth or Dallas for a bowl or Phoenix
Hotels must be dirt cheap there. There's four of us going and it won't cost us 2k
Orlando was bad.Not even close. Humanitarian Bowl in 2002 was by far the worst.
Orlando is bad from a congregation stand point but it's hard to go wrong in terms of entertainment.....if you have a young family, Disney is right there, adults might venture for the beach which is just 45 minutes to an hour away.Orlando was bad.
Two nights downtown Memphis at the Doubletree for $130 a night. Granted I got a refundable reservation last week, so its probably more expensive now. Split it with a friend and it's going to be a cheap bowl trip.Hotels must be dirt cheap there.
Definitely. They hyped this game up when we went with Rhoads against Tulsa. They had a pre-recorded message and called EVERYBODY. I'm not a season ticket holder, but got tickets that year through the Ticket Office for an early season game and still got those dumb phone calls.JP isn't happy that people aren't ecstatic to play Memphis again? Has he ever personally hyped a bowl trip like this before?
I think this bowl game is probably the toughest sell to fans of any bowl games in our history.
Two things I've liked about my trips to the Liberty Bowl.
1. The town really embraces the game. You get more of a bowl game experience where the locals embrace the game. Can't say the same for games in bigger cities.
2. The bowl game raises money to support St. Judes Children's Research Hospital where patients do not receive a hospital bill.

I looked last week and there were a number of marriott properties not downtown that were like 120-150/night. It's not bad pricewise.Hotels must be dirt cheap there.
Yep we are staying out east for like $135 a night. That's pretty tough to beat. We are taking the kids so being close to Beal isn't really a factor for us this time.I looked last week and there were a number of marriott properties not downtown that were like 120-150/night. It's not bad pricewise.
