Heard what I thought was a good take this morning on FOX Sports. LaVar Arrington I think played at Penn State and was a 1st round draft pick. He said most players should only go in the portal if they already have a known destination. They are giving up a free education, good relationships, good training, good nutrition, good medical care. And there are a lot of kids that go in the portal and end up sitting on a couch with nothing. Even if you're content with moving downward, at least have a place to land before you jump in.

He's 100% correct. I can't believe the number of kids who just sit in the portal and don't go anywhere isn't talked about more. Now, I'm sure a lot of them come to the realization that their options aren't what they thought and the level of football they are actually wanted for isn't worth it to them which doesn't really change the fact they gave up their free education.

Neal Brown today said for the 1st time (thanks to owner of the diamondbacks, billionaire wvu grad), WVU won't lose ANY core players to the portal, and will add several, 1 wr, 3-4 secondary), and 1 edge rusher.

WVU's previous AD, who was fired, believed NIL violated title IX.

We'll see how it goes.

I feel like Ryan Day on an NFL sideline would work out about as well as Urban Meyer did.

Ryan Day is almost the complete opposite of Urban Meyer. I don't know that it'd work but it certainly wouldn't be for the same reasons. Day also has a much better offensive style for the NFL.

To each (student athlete) their own, but I'd be content wagering that a free education and good relationships is the furthest thing from the minds of a majority of the players that enter the portal each year.

The transfer portal creates new issues with roster management. We seem to be losing mostly depth pieces. It is great we are not losing key players, but it has to be difficult to replace those depth pieces. Most transfers are looking for a place to play more, so I would expect it is a hard sell for us with so many returning starters and many of them being young. Then high school recruiting is almost over at this point given signing day is fast approaching, so it has to be difficult to find quality high school kids that can add depth. We are likely selling the number of players we play in any given game to kids in the portal and trying to find some diamonds in the rough at the high school level, but I would think it is a challenge.

I think you'll find most of those depth pieces were passed in the depth chart by younger players. Those players can easily be replaced.

My point is that it has to be hard to get a transfer to come to Iowa State if he doesn't see a path to playing/starting. Quality guys are not going to want to be 2nd or 3rd string.

I'd have to imagine a significant number of those kids weren't going to have a schollie at their original school for next year. The transfer portal at least gives them the opportunity to try to land one somewhere else.

As someone who has considered ministry in the past, I’d like to have a consult with ISUMFB team regarding biblical interpretation.

Trusting the Lord and leaning not on your own understanding would be staying with the team you’re committed to vs entering the unknown to explore other options.

But I’m just a guy. No judgment or ill will, just don’t love shoddy biblical quotes thrown around to justify personal decisions.
