We have to play ball to keep ISU somewhat relevant until things change. Either you understand that and donate or you don't care if we only win 3 games a year in football and all of our basketball players leave after a successful year.

I think it's BS too, but I still donate until the lawsuits come through requiring the athletes to be paid by the University.

And if you listen to Williams and Blum, Brent said if we didn't increase our donations to what they are now compared to last year, almost all of our best players would be gone.
This all but confirms we are in a new state of "yearly free agency" and that is what I don't love. I'm all for the players getting their share...but isn't this compounding? Like our top players (assuming they are younger) would expect that moving forward....and there will be new players that emerge...so then it becomes another push for more donations.

I know a lot of this will evolve with the upcoming lawsuits, etc. I think of a player that gets to play earlier because we don't have as much talent, then may leave because they played well (where at another place they wouldnt have that body of work to use as their sellinf point, etc)

Just trust in Blum to raise money to make sure we’re middle of the pack.
Then trust Campbell to make a strong culture that makes it hard to leave to chase money.
We can’t match the big dog offers, but we can scrape together enough money to make it worthwhile to stay. Most guys don’t want to leave.

If we have to bid for you, you aren't likely someone Campbell wants.
I don’t disagree but it is a talent acquisition sport at the end of the day. While this staff develops better than 90% of the rest of CFB you can’t always rely on hitting on lower end high school recruits and developing them. This ‘24 class is filled with guys without a lot of p5 offers.

Iowa State is more likely to use We Will to retain talent rather than pursue talent on the open market. We will not get into bidding wars IMO.
This in combination with ISU being a VERY young program with returning starters in most spots means it just makes sense that they'd be more defensive this portal season.

Without having deep pockets to throw around cash, not having a ton of guaranteed PT available makes for a quiet portal season. Honestly, I'd hope it stays that way this year.

Keeping guys like Noel, Orange, Onyedim, Brahmer, Rocco, Cooper, etc. will do WAY more for ISU than swapping those guys out bc they left for random G5/P5 transfers IMO.

Yeah, looking at the roster, we don't need a mass influx of talent. We need a few pieces to fill the worst holes (while retaining what we have).

Are we expecting any big name transfer portal players to make their way to Iowa State? I hope so. Why not take a chance on some players to inject some top talent into the program. I believe Iowa State will need to attack the portal more, as well as recruit well and develop players internally in order to win the new Big 12.

My post was more "we don't want divas shopping for the highest bid"

It’s like the pros now except they are just straight up making fans pay the players instead of the organization they are playing for. It’s sad really

And if the recent court ruling goes the way it looks like it's going to go for the NCAA, every player on every team is going to be a free agent every season, without any sort of salary cap involved!

Coaches are going to get real sick of this real quick.
