While playing many starters who are underclassmen and could return 18-20 starters next year.

Disappointing indeed….
We keep throwing around the returning starters number and while there is a handful to be excited about there is also a lot of uncertainty in that group. I don’t think it’s as meaningful as we like to think. I would hope we look to the portal to try and upgrade some spots.

Yeah - I suppose these 15 or so underclassmen who were starters won’t improve physically in the offseason.

I wouldn’t read into the results of an exhibition game too much.

I'm hoping it will give them the incentive to push even harder in the off season.

What's Campbell's record when having a break before a game? First game, bye games, bowl games. I'm assuming it's poor when you factor in the quality of opponents.

A lot of uncertainty? Seems to me the players who wanted to leave for the portal have already left.

I do agree we have not taken advantage of the portal like other schools, but I am excited to see this team for next season.

I mean players not being that good , not leaving.

I just don’t see how this is an exhibition game that means nothing when we had one guy sitting out. It’s the same team we had all freaking year. Not to mention we had zero rushing yards! It’s pathetic
But it really is an exhibition game. The game is a reward to players for having a good year. Coaches want to win because their contracts typically have an incentive clause for bowl wins. The game gives fans the opportunity to take a small vacation to watch the team play one more game for the season.

A team’s success or failure for the following year has no merit on the outcome of a mid level bowl game. But a NY6 game can be meaningful

I guess we have the Iowa game on New Year's day to look forward to. Brian Ferentz's offensive unit should be able to generate more rushing yards than ISU did today.

They get cool swag for showing up usually, but yes, these games are meaningless. Does the school get a payout from the bowl?

Not trying to be overly argumentative…but is college fb kind of doomed if the playoff is all that matters? Expanding to 12 is essential if that’s the case but 110 out of 140 programs have almost zero chance of being top 12 next year including isu.

What does matter outside of the playoff? Regular season rivalry games? G5 teams winning a non aq conference champ game that doesn’t send them to playoff?

Does finishing #2 or #3 in 16 team big 12 not matter? Because that finish is often only going to result in a non playoff bowl game everyone says is meaningless (and maybe is).

He has been great for Iowa State and couldn’t blame it if he wants to move on
Heacock has been good but he has been stubborn and stayed in a 3 man front. Zero pressure on the qb and running teams gashing us. A system is good unless that’s not your personnel strength. Our linebackers are young and not as talented as years past. Can they get there? I surely hope so.

Conference was not good this year.
I would say Texas was the only great team. Otherwise the Big12 was solid, I think the Big12's Bowl record shows that. So I would never discount 6 conference wins. Especially with only 4 home conference games.

Memphis had 3+ weeks to scheme/practice against our 3-3-5 defense and have done a great job of play calling. Plus, not sure ISU had the same passion/energy as Memphis.
