He's got a chance to be an all-timer at Iowa State. Still plenty to develop and work on, but he's accurate, has great intangibles, and has a great young cast of skill players to develop with

What Rocco has done this season as a freshman is pretty damn impressive. We’ve got a good one that we should have the pleasure of watching for another 3 years
The entire offense from the line to the backs including Rocco were not ready at the beginning of the year. Not surprising considering the offseason and major coaching/philosophy changes. All improved dramatically especially the line which greatly aided the success of Rocco and the backs. The pick sixes led to some esrly losses. Great improvement. Should be coaching awards too. Honestly the weakest link was the defense by the end of the year. Got a good OC as well, worried we won't hang on to him long. Illinois probably will need a head coach soon.

Rocco has thrown 20 TD passes this season. I think that has only happened two other times (Purdy in 2019 and Bandhauer?) Pretty impressive by Rocco and sad from an ISU perspective.

I don’t get the silly banter in the portal thread regarding Rocco vs Purdy. The truth is they are both studs and had an outstanding freshmen year. If you take away Rocco’s pick 6s against Iowa and KU we might have won both of those games and he would walk on water right now in terms of our perception. I hope he’s the guy the next 3 years then RS Jr Moberly is patient and rolls in and gives us 2 great seasons. This is not a knock on Kohl at all, just that barring injury there should only be 1 QB each season outside of mop up duty.

I think his best attribute is his composure. Never really seems rattled. Even when he has thrown a pick six, he goes right back in there like it never happened.

The banter is because some people don't want to say that Rocco is a stud. Which I guess they're entitled to their opinion.

As far as Moberly and Kohl go, the QB room does need depth. How many B12 teams went the whole season with 1 QB? I know at least UCF, KState, Texas and BYU all had at least 2 QBs start. Having a starter, an up and comer and 3rd viable option has to be what ISU aims for (at least) every year. Moberly would be more that 3rd option as a true freshman assuming Kohl and Rocco are both still here.

On the transfer portal thread--I think it's pretty incredible there's any argument around Rocco vs. Brock's supporting cast. To me, it's no question that Montgomery, a physically dominant Hakeem Butler, and a solid receiving group of Milton (pre-injury), Jones, Eaton, freshman Kolar, and Allen made up a better group than this year's. That's not to say that this year's other skill guys weren't good or can't get to the point of those other guys, but it seems like some recency bias is coming in; people are forgetting how incredible Butler was that year, or forgetting that there was a group of other solid guys besides Butler.

Because of the differing contexts that Rocco and Brock were in, I think it's a bit difficult to make too many direct comparisons on stats/records. I'd say that their QB skills (accuracy, making reads, etc.) are similar, but Rocco has a steadiness to him that Brock sometimes didn't, while Brock had a sort of confidence and flashiness that Rocco hasn't necessarily displayed yet.

Regardless, we're lucky to have Rocco Becht. With how much he evidently developed from last year to this year, it'll be exciting to see what kind of steps he can make into next year.

Testifying
I love Rocco. Kid is a total baller. The numbers he put up this year has to have a few teams taking notice and ready to maybe throw up some NIL money.
Hopefully his dad keeps him here. He's well liked.
