Based on the way Thompson is playing on the floor, you guys definitely have a reasonable point.

However, do you remember Thompson in high school and at Iowa? He was a top 100 recruit, and was the sixth man for the Hawks' NCAA Tourney #3 seed team when he was a Sophomore. I've never seen a someone's confidence shaken as much as his. He now scores less, and plays less for a much worse basketball team than that Hawk team. McDermott's controlling nature has affected his ability to play. It's sad to watch.

I remember Alex playing pick-up his senior year in high school against Homan at ISU. He was doing reverse dunks, turn-around jumpers, pull-up jumpers and a bevy of fantastic moves to pretty much run circles around Jared. Plus, if you ever watched him play for Martin Bros. AAU (the best AAU team in Iowa) you'll remember how fantastic he played. He was a solid recruit. I know this might be hard to believe, but I have no reason to make it up.

Regardless, I agree with you; he doesn't look good out there, but I wouldn't go as far as saying he's a "wasted scholarship." That's harsh.

OK... Thompson his Sophmore year at Iowa was hardly a 6th man. He was about the 7th guy at best. He averaged 12 minutes a game and only 2pts a game... Which is his career average.

He had 1 lucky shot with the Hawks and that 1 shot won a game. Not exactly Larry Bird there. Infact when he shot that ball, I had 3 Hawk fans around me yelling for him to pass to a better shooter. Infact Hawk fans laughed at us for taking him off their hands.

I don't remember the "great" player that he was before going to Iowa and while in high school. He could of been. But just like Armstrong said during the game. Everyone comes to college after averaging 20pts a game in high school thinking there are big time players and scorers and you can see what happens.

If you look up Alex's stats you notice 1 thing.. They are almost identical for all 4 of his years. Hardly a great player being held back by MAC... Get the facts first and then make a statement like that

Disagree. AT was an all-star in practice at iowa, yet never did much in games. His highlight there was the three in the Big 11 tourney. The guy just can't get his practice game to the court on gameday. I don't know if it is nerves or what. GMac evidently couldn't help him overcome that, but he didn't "ruin" him. Look how Brackins has improved and the quick improvement of Hamilton. GMac can develop bigs. It's the perimeter guys that have been the problem.

True, his stats are almost identical throughout his four years, but he was the first (or second, I'll give that to you) guy off the bench at Iowa. Plus, it is just one pick-up game that I played-in with those guys so I can't take everything from it. But it DID HAPPEN and Homan was playing HARD! However, one would hope that Alex's stats would have gone up considering he's now playing for a worse team.

I just think sometimes everyone who posts on here (myself included) cares so much for the Cyclones and wants them to do well that we loose perspective that the Cyclones are student-athletes and don't deserve the crap that gets said about them on the boards. He's not getting paid to play.

Anyway, great win Clones and I hope we get to see a few more before the year ends.

Good point. I think GMac can develop bigs, too.

This is just wrong. Thompson scored 2.0 ppg and shot 31.0% from the field during his Sophomore year. Alex is actually having is best season this year as a Senior averaging 2.3 ppg and shooting 53% from the field. Alex hasn't lost a bit of confidence under McD. His problems aren't easy to fix: poor hands and slow feet.

Proud of the team tonight, great win and everyone contributed! Solid effort by everyone on the floor and CB proved himself once again. :notworthy:That tamahawk inbounds alley-oop dunk was nice. I watched it like 15 times on my tivo.

It's amazing what 44% from the floor & 38% from behind the arc can do for us offensively. Our guards played great D too and held the three amigos to low #'s tonight.

YEEEHAAAWWW!!!

Big deal...I shoot good during warm ups to. But what happens when the game starts is what matters.

Tonight you saw the effects of undisciplined basketball...Baylor has arguably the best backcourt in the conference and a four year starter at the four in Rodgers...we aren't even close to them from a talent standpoint...but they refuse to play offense or defense for more than 10-15 seconds.

We finished with darn near the same amount of 3point attempts as Baylor, but most of ours were wide open looks off of penetration, working the ball around, or in transition, while most of there's were forced up bombs with 23 seconds left on the shot clock, because they aren't disciplined enough to work the ball around, and attack the basket with their superior athleticism.

I hate losing...but I'd be a heck of a lot more upset being 4-9 with the team Baylor has than being 3-10 with this team....good game tonight fellas...

Drew got a ten year contract extension last year so he's not going anywhere, but dang I am underwhelmed by this Baylor team. I mean it's virtually the exact same team that went to the tourney last year.

Fine by me if they keep him...no matter how much talent you bring in...if you don't have discipline, you will not achieve up to your potential, and even last year's Baylor team that landed an 11seed in the NCAA tourney and a first round a** kicking by Purdue lacked discipline...

Holy Crap! I missed a game! I'm traveling and I thought the game was Wednesday night. The articles read pretty well. Sounds like a good game.

Interesting how I don't watch and game and we win. Hmmm....
