I stopped at a Maverick in Colorado on my way back from Estes last summer. Their chorizo breakfast burrito is bomb and that place was cleaner than any gas station I've ever been in.
Agree that the burritos are great. Was out in Wyoming 5+ years ago and still remember their great breakfast burritos. Best part of them taking over Kum & Go =)

Agree. I'm not sure Maverick is better than KwikStar, but it is definitely better than Casey's and QuikTrip.

Maverik isn't better than Quik Trip. Maybe the DM ones (which they haven't put a lot of effort into) but not the newer ones. Though I will say I do like the self check out feature the newer Maveriks have. Makes sense in the evening when it's slower (so long as theft isn't an issue).

Ironically many of the Maveriks in SLC, their home base, are run down and trashy. Reminds me of a Circle K store when going in.

Not sure why QuikTrip is catching strays with Casey’s. I’d frequent them if we had them in NEIA.

LOL, QT runs circles around all but a handful of stores. If the goal is to get in and GTF out there is no store that does it better (anywhere). Though I can understand how/why DM area peeps would have a lower opinion than those that have QTs elsewhere as, for some reason, they haven't prioritized building new stores/completing rehabs on most of those.

It’s probably not better than Kwik Star

It's not but that depends on what one values. Part of the perk for Kwik Star peeps is that they have a lot of good grocery options. The stores are also clean, much like QTs. But the Kwik Star model loses a lot of it's value when put in an urban area where fast food choices and speedy check outs increase in value.

There's a reason one heavily populates rural areas while the other (QT) picks markets and largely dominates them. Completely different strategies that are both wildly successful.

Mavriks are really nice. Kwik Trip has taken my #1 Midwest spot. If Casey’s got rid of their pizza I wouldn’t go there. Buccees is king.

But I feel like Kwik Star does really well at those last two things too. Better than QT

I have a feeling you don't go to many QTs outside of Iowa. As someone who ventures into Kwik Stars when back in Iowa and someone who goes to a ton of QTs in the KC area, nobody competes with QT in that regard. A 30 person line at a QT is rarely greater than a 2 minute endeavor. On the other end is Casey's where a 1 person line can take 5-10 minutes.

But we're not comparing QT and Casey's. Casey's definitely sucks in that regard. Kwik Star is fast, and is generally staffed well.

I prefer QT's fast food to Kwik Star. I think Kwik Star runs a more efficient store and has better grocery options. I'd shop at both if I lived in Des Moines, which I believe is the only market (Omaha?) with both.

IMO the only difference with Des Moines QTs and the newer ones in Kansas City is the general newness and quality of the store. The food is the same from what I can tell.

No, we're not. But, and this is by no means a knock on KS, QT blows them away when it comes to speed and the volume those stores handle makes it infinitely harder to pull that off.

Again, it's not really fair to compare the stores as one makes (most of) its money in a rural setting while the other only focuses on metros and a few satellite stores close to them. With that said if you really think KS can compare to the speed with which QTs ring people up I can only assume you've ever been to QTs in the DM market, which doesn't really seem like a market QT is very focused on anyway.

Come to KC over the noon hour and watch the volume the stores crank out. It's not even remotely comparable.

I'll agree that QTs are better outside Des Moines, though I have visited others while traveling. I could say likewise thoughthat it seems like you've only been to the KSs in the rural areas. My experience with those has been mostly in the Des Moines area, where they are very fast.

Rural Kwik Stars are really fast. Especially when compared to their Casey's counterparts.

The WDM 22nd ST QT blows every other gas station that I've been to in the DM metro out of the water for speed. Their entire setup just works better. Don't really have a KS that I frequent to compare it to, but they have usually be relatively quick the few times I've been at one that was busy. K&G's are next for speed, but Casey's is the absolute worst.
