Somebody should go research how many minutes the other 5-stars are getting this year. I'd bet that Omaha is towards the bottom. Yesterday he couldn't even get in at the 2 minute mark with Pav.

I'm done worrying about him because that ship sailed in December when he got walk-on minutes against scrub teams, but it's extremely disappointing to say the least.

Martin Rancik in the 1999-2000 frontcourt too although I recall he was out for a while and didn't play all that much.

Him, Shirley with Pearson were good in 2000-01. They played their tails off.

Omaha looked to be directing traffic a bit last night in his short time...maybe some stuff is clicking.

There's still two months left in the season. My hot take prediction: he starts getting some time in February.

Sorry, I don't remember too many people suggesting he would start over King and that's what I was addressing specifically. I'm sure some thought he would start. Certainly everyone thought he would contribute more than he has. It's been dissaponting, and I'm sure he would agree with that. That said, we've also had players who I feel have exceeded expectations like Ward. He's turned into a really good player. And Jones has taken another step in his development as well. So overall while Omaha has been dissapointing we've had other players step up their game a lot and frankly the fact Omaha hasn't lived up to expectations just don't matter that much IMO. We've got a hell of a team regardless.
Maybe instead of thinking that where Omaha is at developmentally is disappointing we should take the view that our senior bigs have made themselves that indispensable on the court. Sounds like Omaha is putting in the work. He has some great examples on the team of what it takes day to day.
Playing defense for the Cyclones is no easy task and they looked pretty good working together this week. That is a lot to put together and do it instinctively. I sure could couldn’t, it took me a month just learning to march on instinct in the Army. Can’t imagine learning all the moving parts.
I thought Fred was copying TJ’s defense a little last year and the cornholers were starting to look better. Their defense looked lost against Iowa even if you just give Iowa the 3 point line.

Agree, but now we hit the road to BYU and TCU where odds makers predict we'll lose both.

I think the key is to just keep focusing on what's immediately in front of us and not look further down the road or in the rear view mirror. It would be good for fans to do that too.
TCU scares me, but I think we'll be a nightmare match up against BYU. We're going to chew them up in the lane. Their bigs are slow!

I really didn’t expect Hasan to average 11 and 5 in his first 4 games back from injury. That, added to what BRE is bringing raises our offensive floor.

A huge improvement in both players this year is not fouling when doubling the guard on the perimeter and also not getting called for moving screens on offense. BRE hasn’t been in foul trouble all season, since he’s not picking up 2 cheap unnecessary fouls a game.

OSU has some stud athletes and I don't think they are a bad team, but they've started conference play at 0-3 and when I look at the rest of their conference schedule, I'm afraid they're in for a VERY LONG season.

I thought it was going to be tough like the last two years but ISU's ability to drive the ball makes a big difference.

Here's every 5-star in 247sports rankings from the 2023 class who's playing on a college team this year. Among these 15 players, Omaha is:

- One of three who hasn't started a game
- One of four who is not playing at least 20 minutes per game
- 14th of 15 in minutes per game
- 14th of 15 in points per game

Hasan and BRE have improved dramatically from last year and it makes this teams ceiling much higher. They both look like legit Big 12 bigs now instead of role players with minimal talent.

BRE's growth over the last 3 years has been great to watch. His energy is more channeled now.

Well they said they were replacements, imagine trying to call a game where you don't know either team until you're given the assignment at 12:00 that day. Seem s they are doing an OK job. Better than listening to OSUs announcers.
I thought they did well actually. Noah is great on radio for the ladies games and Alex is much better than the other "local" that we could have gotten stuck with.....Larry hawk Morgan

Now do the compositions of the teams those players play for. How many have 3 Super Seniors on their front courts?

Expectation was for both freshman to be MAJOR contributors. Milan isn’t exceeding expectations; he is as good as advertised, and that a huge to him and the staff.
That may have been your expectation, but not a realistic one IMO. Freshman are a complete wild card. If you've got two freshman and one turns out to be a major contributor then we're doing well IMO, regardless of recruit rankings.

Milan has far exceeded expectations imo. It’s easy to spot the people that just lap up the media hype train year after year in both FB and basketball. They aren’t going to tell you the real because their livelihood depends on it. Insurance salesman don’t pitch their products by telling you that you don’t really need insurance.

Milan if we throw him among the 2023 five-star freshmen is:

- One of five to start every game
- 1st in minutes per game
- 4th in points per game

Not bad for a mere four-star.

The combination of BRE, King, and Ward is a top tier Big 12 front court, IMO. It‘s been a long time since ISU has had such a formidable front line.
This might be semantics, but I'd include Watson and Milan. I don't think we've seen the 4-guard lineup in league play, instead bringing in Watson to back up Tre or moving Milan to that spot.

Relatedly, maybe one of the reasons Omaha isn't getting a lot of run is Milan is also a forward and it's hard to keep him off the floor (see above, he's really good).
