Why did we win? What did we do that allowed us to win?

We scored more points than Kansas.

My point is, outside of any blowout game, you can make the same argument for any close win or loss. Each game is unique and you either make enough plays to win or you don’t. We shot the ball very well yesterday. It’s not sustainable for the season and we don’t need it to be. We made the plays to win that game. We made different plays to beat Kansas State. And TCU. And Houston.

we scored more points than Kansas did. Did you not know how sports work?

Do you just want the team to play at their averages for the season? You understand that's not how sports works?
So for this team to win they need to shoot beyond their average every game? Sorry I didn't realize that. I hope TJ knows.

This team is not good enough offensively to win with their offense every game.

What is the reason they lost at OU and BYU? How will they win at Baylor?

Insert Heacock gif.

Oh c'mon, we all hated how Tyrese Hunter hit 7 threes to win the first round two seasons ago and then Gabe went crazy vs. WI after being uneven offensively all season.

People stepping up to win is just not in the DNA of ISU sports.

Who said anything about every game? Is this really a struggle for you?

What are you expecting of the team?

No, but it’s called average for a reason. Some games are better than others. We are not great offensively in the half court, hence the issues with BYU and OU

Everyone enjoy the win? Good because it's time for your morning piss in your Cheerios time.

We shot out of gourds last night. Nearly 50% at high volume. Our average is 36% if we shot out normal average it would be 9pts less which is significant.

I'm not counting that last 3 made by KU since it wasn't contested and the game was already decided. In my mind the margin was 7pts. So on a normal night of shooting the game would have much closer and we probably would been down at the last couple of possessions. We might have still won but odds are we would have lost.

The concerning part is our defense continues to break down in the late stages of games. KU has the best starting 5 offensively in this league and Self makes the best adjustments. So we can't expect our defense to always get stops on teams like that but it's starting to become a trend.

Aside from our out the norm 3pt shooting and an amazing individual performance from King we probably lose this game.
Have you ever watched a season of basketball? All this **** ebbs and flows. We also missed a **** load of FTs and had some really bad turnovers. No game goes exactly as expected and every team wins games throughout the year doing things out of the ordinary

I don't mean to sound condescending here, not directing this at anyone in particular, just a perspective motivated by "we shot well":

I often see folks stating or insinuating that good three point shooting in a particular game is largely up to luck. There's a component of that for sure, it's a high-risk / high-reward shot, but it's also one of the most well-practiced and designed-for elements of modern offenses, and skills for players with pro aspirations, you're not getting a spot on most pro teams and most levels if you can't hit an open three at least.

We shot well yesterday because yes a bit of luck but also because KU deliberately gave that shot up to Tre King. They also deliberately put a slower, less athletic defender on Keshon and gave up those shots to him.

Similarly, teams shoot and make a lot of threes against us, often above their averages. That's by design, our defense takes away basically everything else from most teams and while TJ's defense is super-effective, the book on how to beat it is open: the trap/double is coming, don't panic, swing the ball or get it cross-court and you can get a lot of good looks for three.
