I get what you’re saying but Self is likely right.

Not concerned that they won. That's what your brain thought I said. I bought up the point that it's concerning that we had to have that type of individual effort and 3 point performance to win. In a game that we were supposed to win by 7 based on how we have performed thus far.
Ok so I'll just go off of betting lines from now on for how a game is supposed to go and ignore all of the nuances within a game that impact the game in reality.
Very strange stuff.
"Iowa State shot well to beat #7 at home and why this is an ominous portent for their future" is not what I thought I was going to be reading about after the game.

'Some schmucks somewhere said ISU was supposed to win by 7 and they kinda did except for a last second 3, but they didn't win in line with some numbers so ISU might get beat in the first round of the NCAA tournament if they make it' is where we're at in the season.
When metrics say you should win by a certain number of points it doesn't necessarily mean that itll happen in any one way. There are a lot of ways to win a basketball game, and the best teams can beat you in multiple ways because teams are always going to try to find different ways to shut you down as well. So those metrics effectively take into account our chances to win in a variety of different ways. KU shut down some avenues of getting a win yesterday, and we found other ways. Simple as that.
We won by seven if you exclude the meaningless buzzer-three while down seven, which teams hit against us with 100% accuracy.
We will always need to play well to beat Top 10 teams. Either elite level defense like the Houston game, or better than usual shooting like against Kansas.

That Niang team didn't have the ability to defend like this team.
There was no one on that Niang team with the upside of Momcilovic. Lipsey is just a different style of point guard than Morris. Ward may very well spend some time in the league.
Also interesting to note that Niang senior year team was bounced by a team in Virginia with similar metrix to what we have this year. Top 5 defensive team. Defense and guard play wins in March.
That one really hurt the people who bet on ISU. The spread was -4.5.
This is getting beyond ridiculous. We won. We shot the ball well. We didn’t turn them over much like we usually do. We fouled too much and sent them to the line too much. We missed too many free throws. We got out rebounded. We turned the ball over too much. Yet we still beat the #7 team and long-time standard-bearer in our conference. It wasn’t a fluke. It was a win. And the results of what happened yesterday have zero bearing on our future games. We have a good team capable of competing with anyone in the country. We have 20 games and two top 10 wins to prove that. What more could we ask for?
Imagine waking up today upset because we didn't win like we were supposed to.
I hadn't thought of it until now, but maybe shooting well and winning is actually a bad thing?

I've spent the last few minutes reading the last few pages of this thread and it's devolved into a poster behaving like a dope whining about winning a game on national TV against a Top 10 team and the best program in the league. FFS.

" Hey this guy has made three today, somebody might want to actually guard him on the perimeter."
ISU not having much of an answer if their defense isn't there is what we watched the last two years.
Unfortunately ISU had answers yesterday from multiple players. Frustrating.
