Couple thoughts:

I wish Pav would hunt for his shot around the 3 point line a little bit. He shot 39% from three last year at Wofford and shooting 40% from three this year. Granted, last year he only took about 3.5 threes per game and this year is 11/27 so not a huge sample size. He's pretty small so it surprises me how much he looks to drive instead of moving around the three point line looking to get open.

Rob did not have it last night and nearly cost us the game. 3/11 from the field as a post when all of your shots are around the rim is really bad. He should really never be taking more than 5 shots a game. On top of that, he couldn't guard Disu (not sure how many people in the country could have with how hot he got for that stretch in the second half) and was routinely out of position on defensive rebounds. I'd be curious to see how many starting center's in the country are the 4th leading rebounder on their team over the season.

Lipsey was decent all night but holy cow he took over when he needed to and he will win us so many more games over the next 2+ seasons. He reads the game so well and had a few offensive boards in the last few mins that led to us being able to kill some more clock, and obviously had the huge three and the assist to King to ice it. But my favorite play may have been with just over two mins left, Lipsey got put on Disu multiple times with the game on the line, and then in a scramble moment, was defending another guy but realized Curt Jones was going to guard him, saw the ball was coming to Disu and came from behind and knocked away a pass to Disu for a huge steal (Milan got credit for the steal but it was all Lipsey). Just a winning basketball play. And then oh yeah makes the three on the very next possession to go up 7.
I think your criticism of Rob Jones for his lack of rebounding is unfair. In TJ's scheme, the #1 priority for our big men is to prevent the man they are guarding from getting the rebound. Rob does that very well. Getting the rebound themselves is our big men's second priority. That's why ISU's guards have more rebounds than any other team.

Also, Pav has the ability to get into the lane at will, and TJ is pushing him to do exactly that. But I agree he's a good 3 point shooter and I'd love to see him put more of those shots up.

Rob averages 4.5 rebounds in 22 minutes per game. That's not bad. He's starting but not playing "starter minutes". Same story for King and Ward. They each scale up to 6-8 rebounds per 30 minutes, that's in Cato/Fizer territory (although Fize wasn't a great rebounder).

Because they are ******* stupid and answer themselves, dumbass.

I've never purported to have any inside connections to the program. Ever.

In terms of saying a player is terrible it's up for the players's own play and stats to dictate. It's a pretty factual and objective statement to say Paveletzke has been one of the worst players, for any team, during Big 12 play. If that hurts your feelings, maybe a message board isn't the best place for you?

Why are you the way you are?

You do realize that our starters need breaks. When guys on the bench come in to give them a blow, they usually are not as good as the starters and maybe need a year to develope more but can still help the team. When someone used to sub in for Michael Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, and the rest of the goats, the backups were not as good. They still need guys to give those guys a rest. Your take is really bad. Pav comes in and is good enough to give us some bench minutes. That’s what his job is right now. Maybe he develops, maybe he don’t but he is helping this team

I don't understand the point of this post. I never said guys don't need breaks. What I have said, am saying, and will continue to say is Pavs SHOULD NEVER be that guy (at least not this year). Watson should be getting more playing time...Ward should be getting more.

We have 3 competent bigs, 3 competent guards, and 2 competent wing players (Watson and Milan). We don't need Pavs to give players breaks. Look around college basketball. Many if not most teams can't go a legit 8 deep. Pavs not playing is a complete non-issue 99% of the time.

You have really weird obsession with picking on the guys that play the least amount of minutes every year.

I'm generally fine with Pav sitting but he was fine last night. He did have 1 possession where he wasn't much resistance and someone hit a jump shot over him, but overall he looked good.

Abmas isn't a very big or physical guard so maybe TJ thought it was a good opportunity for him to matchup well.

I don't understand you at all, we just won at a place we've only won twice since the formation of the Big 12 and you're worried about Pav getting 9 minutes?

He just had 6 combined minutes the last 3 games combined and you're complaining he's being used too much.

Been watching the conversation and I can understand the argument for wanting to see Ward get some more minutes and Pav getting less due to the metrics and watching from the TV set. i really think it comes to the staff belief/trust in the both BRE and Pav and keeping/building their confidence so if they are needed later in the year they are ready to contribute at the "competent" level. By drastically reducing a players minutes or removing no could lead to them checking out and not being ready when called upon. Pav hasn't translated his mid-major success as quickly as Jones/Gilbert have but he is showing signs of adjusting to the size and speed of the Big 12 and getting him minutes especially in games like UT when up by double digits could really pay off in March or if he doesn't then he won't play in the tournaments. The staff is evaluating that now and is still getting wins.

I don't think the staff is set on playing certain players, (Ward was the starting C entering the year pre-injury) they do value chemistry and trust in playing in their system. The team is use to the current rotation knowing roughly when each player will be coming in and for who right now and the team is playing well and having success. The staff may very well agree with the "competent" players you stated in a single game but not what to mess with the current roles and chemistry the team has right now to experiment with minute changes that the staff has had set for the past 2 months. Players often thrive with routine knowing how to properly prepare and pace them selves for the same minutes and there is value in keeping the rotation the same for now. If the team falters I believe the staff will make roster minute changes as they have the past two years even is later than the fans want.

Nightmare fuel.

I'm an pretty ugly man, so I get to say this objectively.
If we had the look-a-like thread for basketball teams/games, here is the first thing thing that popped into my head...:

Do you think it's a negative thing to call someone a dumbass?

Do you think calling a player terrible is a negative thing?

Why do you make point blank concrete statements about what a coach 'needs to do' if you don't have any actual inside information or experience from within the program or team?
Just block him already.

You've said that Ward should play until he has to be carried off the courtor something to that affect.

What are you going to say if that were to happen (any coach is an idiot if they do that) and he can't play down the stretch?

See, this is where I get frustrated with some of your posts. You're speaking in absolutes. Saying Pav should never play is ridiculous considering he DID play and he made plays that helped the team win. He wasn't just getting Tamin some rest he also helped Gilbert get some rest as well and it worked. It wasn't against some scrub team either it was on the road against a solid Texas team with a slew of good guards.

It was a matchup thing. Against longer and more athletic backcourts, Pav likely won't see the floor. Texas has shorter guards and Pav played his role to almost perfection. And TJ didn't throw him in there arbitrarily either. Pav came in on the first round of subs, which I think was a good idea to see how he'd do in the beginning and test to see if he was capable of playing in this game, which he obviously was.

Also iirc Gilbert had 3 fouls in the first half or early in the 2nd. If a game is being called weird it's good to have someone who can go in and hold serve and maybe even take on some fouls since they're going to get called anyway.

Pav is a change of pace kind of guy and I would bet there's a scouting report on him that he's very capable of scoring from several places which is a problem since ISU's other three guards are too.

He's a utility guy, much like Watson. Both will see their minutes fluctuate depending on scouting reports/matchups.

At the start of the season, I thought we could legitimately see a 9-10 man rotation (10 if Omaha was seeing more time). We are now seeing this on a regular basis, 9 guys.

CuJo and Ward see a great deal of time, they are nearly starter minutes. The team and player matchups and flow of the game dictate how time time Watson and Pav see.

Texas played 8 guys but their nonstarter minutes were 49 (49 minutes for their 3 subs). That's quite a few! We countered by playing 4 nonstarters (Ward, CuJo, Watson, Pav) who totaled 59 minutes!

We have the depth to deploy these 9 guys now, and it's situational. But playing more guys allows a team like ours, who exerts a lot of energy playing defense, to continue to play hard and fast. That is a key point, and an element to our success so far.

Watson and Pav have been a real plus for us lately. Needless to say, Ward and CuJo are huge pieces for us this year.

Making 2 BS shots and playing shoddy defense isn't exactly helping the team win. In fact we won in spite of him playing.

On the second bolded line there IS NO POINT in a game, other than garbage time, where Pavs should see the floor. We don't need to "see how he'll do" as we already know what he will do: give a subpar performance relative to (better) available options on the bench. Yes we had a big lead but as we saw the other day, and have seen numerous times in Otz's tenure, it's never safe to assume a first half lead is insurmountable on the road (it wasn't).

Everyone defending Pavs is talking in circles, almost as if they are pals sticking up for their best friend. He simply doesn't have the athleticism or size to be anything other than a liability defensively and his best case scenario is that he treads water offensively.

Instead of saying "hey, he sucks less than he usually does" or "if we are going to put in a substandard player doing so with a big lead is better than putting him in during a close game", you need to ask yourself if it's smart, necessary, and/or if he's the best option we have. The answer to all of those questions is no. This isn't the first conference game it was the 9th. We've seen enough already. All we can hope is that he gets a lot better for next year. If not it's a wasted scholarship.

Texas is a guard heavy team and we were going to pressure the crap out of them, leading to guys being tired. Pav came in early and did fine and then throughout he made some plays, both offensively and defensively. He wasn't perfect but you don't need your role players to be. His role is to soak up minutes if need be and TJ obviously thought it was going to be needed against a team like that. AND IT WAS SUCCESSFUL.

None of the other posters, including myself are saying that Pav should be playing anymore than he already does, which is not much. You're the only one saying that he should never ever see the floor, which means you're going against TJ and are burying your head in the sand with what you just saw on Tuesday night.

Your posting style is just so damn arrogant honestly. If you would've said "I don't think Pav is ready to play at this level but man, the kid came in and stepped up when called upon and I hope that can keep happening", that'd be one thing. But you completely refuse to be wrong even when being proven wrong by Jackson himself.
