My personal 'want' for ISU is to make the tourney with big home wins mixed in so the rest of this is just gravy.

'Greedy' for me is winning a tourney game or two and I realize that may be a low bar to some but I just don't trust the tournament enough to feel like ISU should automatically make a run.
We've seen too many NCAA Tournament games with big upsets and brackets busted to expect ANYONE to "automatically" go on a run. Tourney is too unpredictable for that.

BRE played awesome. That play, plus the charge he took late in the game was just a master class on a smart player finding ways to help his team when we needed it most. BRE‘s improvement over the last year has been huge shot in the arm. We’ve gone from a 5th or 6th spot in conference to still being in the running to win the conference late in the season.
Yeah, it's been amazing to watch him progress this year. He affects the game in so many ways.

Also when it was still close their player dived into one of our better free throw shooters (C Jones) for no reason and gave us 2 points and our first breathing room of that run.
Curtis Jones as been the most consistent Cyclone for over a month. Played the most minutes yesterday, 11 or 12 straight games in double figures, great defense, and just a steadying influence on the court.

I once again need to explain my terrible comment from earlier...our team was losing.. I fell into negative group think we were going to lose....I feel bad for being a lemming..I fell off the cliff today...I apologize.

I was right there with you. Had a few pops and was into every single play (Gilbert’s 9 turnovers were my kryptonite). It happens when you are emotionally invested in something.

After stepping back, our offense wasn’t that bad. We shot 46% from the field. We need to cut down on silly turnovers and make some damn free throws and that game looks differently. KU scored 60, Tech 61, OU 63, BYU 63, WV 59 at UCF. And Houston scored 57 on them in Houston. They are a very good defensive team.

We need to clean up turnovers and hopefully hit a few more open 3s and we’ll be just fine offensively.

And over those 12 games - since he started in place of Lispey at TCU - he has 34 assists, 17 steals and only 9 turnovers.

Went out with friends to Brick City after the women's game. The diners definitely got animated in the last 5 minutes. The place was pretty much living and dying with each possession.

Just look at BartTorvik, I never realized UCF has the #9 defense. No wonder yesterday was such a dogfight.
Defense has always been a strength of Dawkins’ teams. He and T.J. should be kindred spirits. They had a big win at Houston a few years ago (2019 maybe?) when Houston had the longest home winning streak in the country. He’s just got to figure out stealing a few road wins in the Big 12 now, they are pretty solid at home.

I know you mean 40 but is there any time that this has been something to expect from about any college basketball team let alone ISU?
Yes, I did mean 40 minutes.

And I would agree most teams don't put together a whole game. But elite teams execute when the game is on the line and have a couple big runs in them most games.

I do think ISU is playing with fire with our offense consistency. Going long stretches (8-10 min) averaging less than a point-per-minute can be trouble.

People exaggerate how bad the defense was as well. Starting with Royce first year we went 66, 123, 55, 59. It wasn't that bad.
Would be curious what those rankings would be just including P6 hoops teams and just their games against P6 opponents.

Is ISU truly elite?

And if so did they not go on a run yesterday to close out the game in a tough place to play? How about WV and OU?

I guess I'm not sure what people are expecting from a team that has done this well without much real star power.

Yes we are elite.

I don't think myself or any one else questioning our offensive efficiency the last couple weeks are off base. At this point in the season, if your team isn't playing at it's best, your season can end quickly. Because we won't be playing a UCF, but a top 20 team!

I am sure the staff is watching a lot of tape to dissect why our offense goes through these 5-10 minute lapses.

Lipsey is hurt. That is why the offense is struggling. The difference between this team being a 75-100 ranked offense and a top 40 ranked offense is him being a 15 ppg scorer, while shooting an efficient percent from 3 and not turning the ball over. All of these are things he was doing at a high level in the first half of conference play.

I'm not a coach but it's pretty easy to figure out. We are missing shots. A lot of those shots in the OU and UCF game were good looks. Just missing them.

Why are we missing them? A lot of discussion about being tired due to the way we play, the opponents. Probably a little of both. My opinion is some is due to regression to the mean.

The games prior to WVU we have been on a streak of several games of pretty good offense. I don't think we are a great offensive team so we played a little over our heads in that streak and these last 3 games is a market adjustment. We'll see how they do these last few games. Maybe the 3 games is the anomaly or maybe that's just who we are.
