Bigs for next year?

I don't think the halfcourt trap defense will be very good next year if we go to a 4G system. We had that with Fred and I hated it - no rebounds, weak defense, pray that 3's go in.
Rebounding output under Fred was because we always released one or two guys for a run out in transition. We seldom had four let alone five guys going after boards

If we can make a decent run in the tourney, combined with TJ's recruiting and biceps, we will get some quality bigs in the transfer market. My guess is TJ goes after two guys. Not sure how much JTR will play next season and assuming Biliew starts next year at the 4 (Momcilovic at the 3).

I like the looks of Rock and think he'll contribute more than most think next year. Not sure why some don't consider Omaha a front court player. He better be because I'm not sure where he'd be getting minutes next season. He taking Milan or CJ's minutes? With his size, athletism, and skills he better play the 4. Still need another big which shouldn't be too tough to get with the backcourt we'll have to play along and the coaching. Green's more than proven how well he develops posts

I’d take another Hasan, I’d take 2 actually. The one problem with bigs for us is that it seems like they need a year to understand the defense at the highest level. Ward and BRE are extremely smart defensive players and you don’t learn it overnight.
Yeah, I'm hoping that Rock's getting the positioning down - all those damn traps - during this redshirt year so he can be a contributor from the start.

Fish doesn't have that much height - relative to high D1 BB - or quickness in our few chances to see him so I'm interested to watch his development. Maybe he'll develop into a junkyard dog that makes winning plays.

Getting good quality minutes out of Omaha next year would be awesome, but I’m surely not counting on it. But the staff should know by now what they can expect.

Our back court will be absolutely stacked.

Return Lipsey, Gilbert, Jones. Assume Pav stays. Hamilton will be off red shirt. Pierce and Nojus coming in. Milan can also play theee.

We need big transfers. Badly.
Ward, King & BRE are muscled, 22/23 year olds who have logged massive minutes around the basket in the toughest conference in basketball. Rock is the only Big returning and it is unfair to expect him to be able to perform at that level with no game experience, a body still filling out and the age of a true freshman. TJ will have to find a couple of grown men to transfer in. He can offer an immediate opportunity with the guards & Milan returning. They won’t have to be scorers, just bangers that play hammer down enforcers.

Donate $! Frontcourt players are expensive!

Our guard court will be elite next year. We have some talented frontcourt players waiting in the wings. A big time transfer in the frontcourt could push us over the edge.

Can we enjoy this win and 18-0 at home for at least an hour before we start worrying about bigs next year? Yeeesh
Not really. Portal opens 3/18 so if the staff have eyes on guys I assume they'll need to pounce on them immediately.
Whatever committee decided the portal should open the day after selection Sunday should be tarred and feathered.
Benefits the bad rich teams who didn't make the tourney.

It’s been more than an hour so I’ll allow it

Yeah, if we're planning on using him as a wing/guard we don't really need him in that roll. We'll be loaded at that position. One of Hamilton or the freshman are going to be a surprise. We seem to get one each season which is going to add to an already stout backcourt. Watching Omaha I hope he progresses as an Ejim/Hogue/Clark type player and none of those guys were wings. Thinking of bigger guys like Shayok, Clyburn,Kane,THT,Johnson that I'd consider wing/guards I don't see it in Omaha's game. Hope he slides into King's roll next year and works with Green in the off-season.

I think many people are underestimating how well Milan plays/defends in the post. He's got the size, and his post moves recently have been NASTY. I'm guessing he'll start at the 4 next year.

Our best line up right now is:
Tamin
Gilbert
C. Jones
Milan
(insert big here, either Tre, BRE, or Ward)

With what ISU has returning, all the need to add is one or two serviceable big men (Think Ben Krikke at Iowa), and I think ISU will be presason top 10 next year.

Agree…. that’s what I’m saying. Anyone know of any names of bigs we might be looking at?

I'm looking for Fish to be the re-incarnation of Dustin Hogue. That would work out well.

He has shoulders as wide as someone like Burton though, and he looked like a junior with his body already as a freshman. Omaha is definitely a 4 next year (assuming he returns), and he will have some versatility in that spot too IMO.

Replacing Rob and Hassan is going to be difficult. If you look at box score you’d disagree.

Hassan’s impact is really hard to quantify. He covers so much ground it’s crazy. Rob’s perimeter defense on the pick and roll is elite for a big man.

Our defense is built on great ball pressure and individual defense but what makes it elite is the help and the rotations.

so much more difficult to replace than what it appears on the surface.

The only thing I'll say is that with our roster being relatively set minus a couple bigs, our staff has the ability to zero in and focus on a smaller pool of players. TJ and the staff are going to have a lot to sell.
