IF ISU wants to play in Omaha next weekend, this is a game they must win. Losing to Baylor 2x will potentially drop ISU to a 3 and lose out on Omaha.
Depends on how much Omaha pleads for amazing economic impact. Bringing in another team from to hell and gone from Omaha with would cost the City dearly. I wonder how many Cyclone fans will be in Omaha?

I actually don't see a way where Iowa State goes anywhere other than Omaha. Creighton losing last night took away the last domino that could start the perfect chain reaction.
Creighton is hosting so they couldn’t go to Omaha anyway. I think last night got us Omaha for sure. I think it was coming down to Us, Baylor, and KU. With Us winning and KU losing two nights ago. I think we locked Omaha.

I see Baylor on some projections as the lowest 2 seed so I think tonight is a fight for the 2 seed. We lose we are a 3 seed and if we win, we might have gotten a 2 seed.

That had nothing to do with the talent on the team, just how many attitudes were on that team. That is absolutely not an issue with this team and coach.

That doesn't mean a team that has a great attitude or is playing well can't get upset.

The David/Goliath dynamic is a thing of the past.

Right but they could have passed Marquette which would have sent Creighton to Indy, Marquette to Omaha and Baylor to Omaha with a win over Iowa State tonight.

That's all moot now anyway.

14 seed, actually, but I get your point.

It's debateable, of course, but IMO losing to UAB was actually worse than losing to Hampton. Back in 2001 we limped into the tournament, so it's actually understandable (although not defensible) that we were ripe for an upset like that.

In 2015 we had just won the Big 12 tournament by beating Kansas by coming from behind and were one of the hottest teams in the nation. They didn't have all the metrics back in 2001 (ESPN's BPI, KenPom, etc.) that we have now (and in '15), but I remember we had a 90+% chance to win versus UAB according to ESPN's formula.

Instead the guys come out with frosted tips, Bryce DeJean-Jones (RIP) goes apesh!t in the locker room during halftime and the rest is history...

Eh, kinda. Their last 4 games had some weirdness including the huge come back vs. OU that was a mess until Fred evidently told them to play street ball for the come back.

They never led in regulation technically vs. Texas in the quarters (were down by 10 with like 2 minutes left), won a weird game vs. OU that included Spangler missing a layup at the end, then beat KU. Their Big 12 tourney was similar to their season in that you weren't sure who would show up.

Teams who got into them that season got them in a funk and the UAB game was a pretty familiar sight.

2001, that team was rolling, got rolled at Texas, then finished out with two wins (Tech and Nebraska) but they were a shell and it sounded like the dynamics weren't great in addition to Eustachy's issues. That awful night in Boise was the finishing touch.
