Given our recruiting footprint, Greg Gard is a very good thing for ISU. I don't think people really appreciate how meh he is.

He recruits ok, but that's entirely because the WI brand still has some pull left over from the Bo Ryan era in spite of him. He doesn't add any value.

He's just some guy.

Yeah I’m not sure how many people are like “that Gard guy looks like he’d be fun to play for”

Very well put.

WI may have been known for its slow pace or whatever but they had an identity and had some very nice teams over the years, peaking in Ryan's last two years.

They went to about 20 tourneys in a row between him and Bennett.

Gard is pretty meh and has yet to really have an identity.

Yeah, I think the idea in hiring him is he's an easier guy to play for that you can sell better to the modern player, and they do play a more "fun" offensive style after some burnout from the Bo Ryan style kicked in, but they completely lost their identity because of it.

In terms of actual in-game coaching, game planning, and building a team, I think he's somewhere between Steve Alford and Prohm.

It's been an awfully long time since WI didn't have a bunch of space to operate in the half court.

They look like they hate dribbling.

They look pretty good. They just need to start hitting more shots. This game should be over by early second half.

FWIW it's a play on the ISU game threads thinking ISU just needs to maintain the same intensity for 40 minutes like every game doesn't have ebbs and flows.
