Anyone have a conference breakdown on wind and losses. Big 12 don’t seem to be doing bad compared to the SEC
Big XII is 5-3. Not bad, but not really showing out since 2 of those losses didn't play to seed and no "upsets".

@dahliaclone Well I should have swapped Texas with BYU, but my prediction of Texas Tech, TCU and Texas losing in the first round a couple of weeks ago wasn’t too shabby eh?

And Texas looked like crap but luckily played some defense.

Eh, but anything 6/11 and in between is basically a coin flip these days. Hell, more 11s win than 6s.

Utah State was probably underseeded (bracketmatrix average was a 6 seed). The MWC didn't do well in the tournament overall, but Utah State won it, and the MWC pretty much rates out right behind the other power conferences. So maybe it isn't surprising that the 1st place team in the MWC beat the 8th place team in the big 12. We're a better conference but maybe not "our 8th place team should be expected to beat their best team" better.

Otherwise, we had Tech lose to an NC State team that won its conference tournament and is hot at the right time, and BYU was what they've been all year- streaky and generally poor away from Provo.

Sure. I don't think it was bad. I would guess probability wise 5 or 6 advancing would have been the most likely outcomes. I don't think it warrants criticism, just nothing to crow about either.

Next year's Big 12 actually slightly better 6-3 because AZ/Colorado have 2 wins and a pig win to Texas one win.

It is amazing to think the conference is going to improve next year.

Arizona is a huge upgrade over Texas. Colorado is a modest from Oklahoma.

Utah wasn't far from the tournament. Arizona State sucks, but I imagine they won't be down for long.

Exactly. I was looking at it this way in the bowl season as well. Perception matters and where you start ranked at the beginning of the year matters next year and gives a team more leeway if they finish well this year. I'd like AZ and Colorado to continue being solid in the tournament for a little bit and be ranked next year (I know, transfers...). Don't mind Texas losing against Tenn. And, of course... hope our guys can roll on to the end!

Big XII has been ok so far. Thankfully not laying total eggs like the SEC and Big Ten, but definitely not going 4-0 and winning upsets like the Pac 12.

Yeah NW and San Diego State aren’t beating UConn.
I want to see the SDSU/UConn matchup about as much as I want to see the ISU/Illinois matchup. I believe SDSU returns their whole team from the championship last year, and UConn doesn’t have sanogo this year. I would not count Sdsu out of that game quite yet

Also, I could see a world where ISU plays Duquesne next week rather than Illinois. Just have to get through Wazzu first

The big 4 (i know kansas didnt finish 4th) have proven themselves to varying degrees but each was impressive overall.

Tx Tech, TCU, BYU looked like pretenders. Disappointing not to get one from them. Or at least all 3 go down to the wire.

Texas is a big fat dumb stupid asterisk. I don't want to claim them here. But I'll do it since we kind of have to, I guess.

That's not unfair. At the same time, I do think we need to pick it up a bit today and tomorrow. Heavy is the head that wears the crown, so to speak. As always, there's haters everywhere right now licking their chops to take shots at the little conference that wouldn't die.

I think if we get 4 in the Sweet 16, your argument holds up nicely. 3 would invite BS the ol' BS narratives. 2 would be a disaster.

Big 12 teams have beaten who? Samford, SDSU, Longwood, Colorado State, and Colgate. Better than losing yes, but not enough to have proven anything IMO.

Have also lost games to: Utah State, Duquesne, and NC state.

It’s a pretty dog poop resume (so far). More to come obviously.

Pretenders can exploit matchups or a great individual performance to get through the first round or maybe even two. Getting from the Sweet Sixteen to the Elite Eight is where you find out who the truly dominant teams in the tournament are.
