i didn't read all this, but I will say good luck Omaha and if we go back one year ago today, we all thought he may be gone to the NBA after one year anyway. Fast forward a year and he didn't even play and he gone to another school...

I think it would be funny if Devries, Payton, Pryce and Omaha ended up at West Virginia.

What’s funny is Omaha could go to a school that is non-P6, get playing time and show what he can do and then transfer back to Iowa State. Not saying it will happen, but from a business standpoint, that’s how a lot of these players are making money. Be an all-conference player in the MVC, MWC, MAC, etc. and then transfer to a place that will now pay you a few hundred grand.

What exactly are people angry about in this thread?
I can't speak for anyone else but I feel like we got scammed. I don't donate to that NIL stuff either but I know people who do, so they didn't get much ROI if some of their money went to getting Omaha here.

He was a colossal bust, that may sound harsh but it's the truth. It kills absolutely any enthusiasm I'll ever have for a high school player committing to Iowa State moving forward.

If the ROI is the season we just had then I guess I can live with that. This is how the world in college athletics is. Nike and Adidas aren’t controlling things anymore and you have seen things start to level out in hoops. I mean in the last two years we have had the following schools in the Final Four and none of them aside from NC State (which it was a smaller level with Adidas if I recall) were in the pool for Nike and Adidas.

San Diego State
FAU
Purdue
NC State
Alabama
Miami
UConn (only national brand in this list for hoops)

And high school wise, are you just going to ignore Milan? I would say I was pretty excited for him and he made an immediate impact.

Scammed? Lol.

That's right, I forgot that Omaha's whole pitch was that he was a Nigerian prince, who just needed to clear malware from your computer, pending the receipt of a money order.

It was all smoke and mirrors to get him that McDonald's All American label. And the coaching staff was in on it too.

eh I don't donate to the NIL for any particular player. I donate to NIL for the whole team. To me we just finished 2nd in the big 12 with a shot to get first if things broke a different way. We also got a sweet sixteen. To me that was a pretty successful season. While we missed on Omaha, players like Milan, jones, and Gilbert make up for it by a long shot.

What exactly were you scammed out of? Let’s say Omaha’s contributions and Milan’s were reversed. Milan didn’t play and Omaha had exactly the output we got from Milan. The season results were the same #2 in the conference, Big 12 conference tourney champs, and a sweet 16. Omaha then declares for the draft.

How would you feel in that scenario? Scammed?

Also in the end we as fans want to see the Cyclones win. And it doesn’t matter what star you were on a recruiting site. Go take a look at Alabama’s squad. Main contributors from Wofford, Ohio, Hofstra and North Dakota State.

Give me proven players that can get the job done. If you want to stick around and develop then hell yes we’ve hit the jackpot. But expecting kids to do that in todays world is just living in a false reality.

How do you define ROI in athletics? I mean, how would Jerry Jones defined ROI in his miserable situation?

Fan who doesn't donate to NIL and has zero clue how much Omaha got in NIL or where it came from is crying about it. Makes sense.

I respect everyone's viewpoint on this, even if I'm not in agreement with some.

As far as HS recruits, for quite a few years I've tried to maintain cautious enthusiasm. I know sometimes expectation falls short. (Other times it's even better than expected).

When it comes to star ratings, I don't put a ton of weight into it on individual basis -- if ISU consistently gets high rankings for a class, it suggests we're attracting a higher level of talent/potential. (Even that is not a guarantee, of course).

I've been around a long time and honestly don't know how we became graced by their presence. Just another barnacle on the hull of the Good Ship Fanatic I guess.
I always thought Sparty was a barnacle. :D

You feel like you got "scammed" for not paying money?

Not all players will have success at the next level. Not all players are successful in a certain system. If one player makes you feel like you got "scammed," then what about all the other success stories? Lipsey, Milan, Jones, to name a few. We can go much further back if we wanted to.

If you want to know what it's like to feel "scammed," go visit the Iowa message boards and read about Proctor

I guess I'm not sure how you can say they tried to make him a 5. I can't think of a single time he wasn't on the floor with either Rob, Hasan or Tre, which would make him the 4. He seemed to work the wings and short corner, which against isn't indicative of a traditional 5. In the Big 12 tournament he ate up Watson's minutes at the wing/4.

And no matter what position you want to call him, it doesn't change the fact that when he was in he didn't look ready to contribute. When he was around the ball he couldn't ever seem to control it. When he'd rebound it would go off his hands. He was a defensive liability with bad rotations and bad on-ball defense. There's not a position you can put him in on the floor to overcome those things.
Besides a small ball 5 is a 4.
