Made Popular: Mar 4, 2009 - AP - An asteroid about the size of one that blasted Siberia a century ago just buzzed the Earth. The asteroid named 2009 DD45 was about 48,800 miles from Earth when it zipped past early Monday, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory reported.

The one they're really watching is coming in something like 2036. It could be a doozy.

I read that we recently increased funding/efforts to identify 90% of NEOs (Near Earth Objects). Currently, I think it's 80%. (I could be wrong on my numbers, but that's to the best of my recollection.)

So, right now, there are 2 out of 10 objects out there that may be barrelling towards Earth. Kind of scary, but it wasn't that long ago that we didn't even track any!

I suspect we can all thank Michael Bay, Bruce Willis, and Ben Affleck for averting disaster!

It's times like these I am thankful Bruce Willis is around...and Ben Affleck, even though he was in Gigli.

Don't worry everybody, the Earth will not be hit by an asteroid until the final seconds are ticking off the clock and ISU is about to win a national championship game in either football or basketball.

"Here's the snap, and Austen Arnaud Jr takes a knee. Five seconds left en route to Iowa State's first ever nat- say Bill, why is there a dark shadow spreading over the fie- BOOM!

Well, that would give us a final answer as to whether or not ISU athletics is cursed..... Too bad none of us will be around to discuss it on CF afterwards!
