Foul when you are up 3 late....every damn time.

Difficulty is the NBA intentional foul rules where you can’t foul until the ball is inbounded. So there’s a fine line there that you have to be careful. And when Boston executes a good screen as the ball gets inbounded, you lose your opportunity. It was a bad play to not switch everything, but I would think that if they had not gotten separated then they would have fouled. But by the time the defender caught up, he had already collected the ball and it would have been 3 shots.

You don't get opportunities better than that to steal one. Boston will show up Game 2 now
Perhaps and there is no doubt the Pacers lost a big opportunity. But it’s still just Game 1. Same thing happened in New York where the Pacers gagged Game 1 away.

Boston could still end up winning this series, but good lord no series is over after Game 1. That’s just a severe in the moment, overreaction.

But it does feel like game 2 is getting close to a must win. Need to get one in Boston and this is likely the last one without Porzongis. Not impossible to win game 5 or 7, just more difficult than 2.

The play where Tyrese got hacked going to the basket by two guys and they said out of bounds on him is one of the worst calls I’ve seen in years. At one point it was 24 to 2 free throws that makes a horrible call like that seem like more than just a bad call.
That one and the "jump ball" they called on Holiday where Holiday went to the hoop and was caught in traffic where nobody appeared to touch the ball other than him.

Just feels like that was their shot and they blew it. It's going to be tough to win in Boston the rest of the series and they obviously have to get one there to move on. Hope I'm wrong.

As for Hali, he does alot of things really well, but he's lacking in lateral quickness for a PG. He's an awesome player within the flow of an offense, but not a guy you can give the ball and say go get a bucket. When forced to do that you see alot of shots like you did the last 2 minutes-- forced up, difficult step-back 3s. He's just not quite quick enough to get around a good defender like Holiday.

Honestly I'm still bummed after that game yesterday. Needed to have it and Tyrese really made some bad choices at the end. Just a bummer.

I feel like another big issue the Pacers need to figure is the physicality of crunch time basketball. I have a lot of strong negative thoughts on the officials, but it was clear in the final 2 minutes + overtime they were going to let a lot of contact go on the perimeter, which I don't mind. But the Pacers had no idea how to handle that pressure which lead to a lot of live ball turnovers and forced late shot clock shots.

The turnover with ten seconds left was caused by a shove in the back (not Tyrese’s but the past one). Its the first real playoff action for the vast majority of them other than Siakam.

You make good points but people said the exact same thing after game one vs Knicks, that it was their only chance. They outplayed the Knicks in that game pretty obviously other than officiating. Tyrese had an actual bad game playing injured in that one, last night he played a great game other than the turnovers late. To defend him a little on the turnovers he did cause a few 4th quarter turnovers himself which I’m seeing as some growth.

He’s not Dereck Rose where he’s gonna explode by people, but he does have freakish rare wing span that allows for some huge clutch plays. The clutch blocked shot last night, the steals he had throughout the game he barely got his fingertips on aren’t possible for most guards, one of them was an easy layup for Boston if he had a typical point guard wingspan. He can get open jumpers and floaters more easily than most guards. The game winner against Milwaukee, the late jumper toward baseline that helped bury the Knicks.

he gets lost alot, too. losing his man.

pacers choked that one away so hard

I just don't get even letting Boston get a 3 off. Switch everything on the perimeter. As soon as the ball is inbounded, foul the guy trying to catch it. If they end up getting a quick 2 because of a switch, so be it.

yeah. you got to protect the 3 point line and if they cut to the basket on the inbound, let them.

I would have fouled but also, the way that inbound unfolded there wasn't an opportunity to really foul anyone because it was such a quick inbound.

He does some good things defensively off the ball and in zone. But he gets bullied physically by guys like Holiday.
To be fair, Holiday does that to most guards in the league. Probably wouldnt have been as noticed had he not turned it over with 30 seconds to go up 3 trying to push the pace instead of allowing them to foul him. Game probably would have been over with 2 made free throws there.

I think by giving away the first game, Boston wins 4-1.

I had Boston in 7, but this is the kind of thing that just breaks your mojo.
