Today is a perfect example of how flawed the team is. Just 3 damn hits is not going to win gamesno matter how good the pitching is and the bullpen still was shakey. The 1 plus is Hendricks went 4+ innings and wasn't garbage.

We should draft a college closer.
I get that this comment is meant more for the future and not a solution to the problem this season. A good closer this season probably would not be the difference maker needed to turn the season around with as bad as the offense has been and lack of consistent guys in the bullpen to bridge the innings to get to a closer.

We've blown 14 of 30 save opportunities if we converted even 80% we'd be tied for Folkestone or better. I don't remember if if we blew any against the Brewers.

The Cubs thoroughly suck. It would be one thing if we didn't have some talent on the team, then we could expect this kind of play. But honestly they are one of the least "tough" teams I've ever followed.
Hey at least they’re really boring!

Too many holes and not worth going over the cap to patch them this year. A bat doesn't fix this team. A bullpen arm doesn't fix this team. A starter doesn't fix this team.

One concern to start paying attention to - at 60 games pitched or 45 games finished, Neris automatically goes under contract again next year. He's at 27 games and 16 finished. I'd rather save that $9 MM, whether that means trade him or start limiting him.

Here's what we have under contract for 2025 and what they cost towards the cap:

Swanson - $25.2 MM
Belli - $26.6 MM
Happ - $20.3 MM (NTC)
Suzuki - $17 MM
Taillon - $17 MM
Imanaga - $13.25 MM
Hoerner - $11.6 MM
Smyly - $10 MM ($2.5 MM buyout)
Neris - $9 MM
Bote - $7 MM ($1 MM buyout)

My focus if I'm the FO is saving money for 2025.

Red is who I'd like to see cut. Blue is who I'd like to see us trade just to save money.

Great, just love to hear him talk about grandpa for 3 hours.
I actually like Chip and I think he and Steve got a bad deal when they got the boot. Someone from the clubhouse literally called up to the press box during the game to complain that they were being too critical on the broadcast. Why in the hell would anyone in the clubhouse know this if they were focused on the game and not the TV broadcast.

I'm kinda excited to see Chip call the game. Lots of history with him and his family with the Cubs and always felt even after all the drama that led to him being replaced he's still been very professional and positive when it comes to the Cubs.

I thought of this yesterday when I was listening to the game: What happened to these guys consistently working long counts and fighting off tough pitches? That’s what made them good offensively in April. Lately the lineup has just been so easy for even mediocre pitchers to manage.
